Video Transcript for Curt Gooseneck 16085 Review

Today were going to review part #: 16085. This is the Curt spider gooseneck trailer hitch for fifth wheel rails. This spider gooseneck trailer hitch is designed to fit on the above bed rails in your truck bed if you want to switch to hooking up to a gooseneck trailer. This does have a capacity of 25,000lbs, gross towing weight capacity. It has a two and 5/16ths size trailer hitch ball. It does require a fifth wheel base rails and a bracket kit which are sold separately or if you already have them installed in your vehicle.

For demonstration purposes I am showing it installed in rails because I want to show you how easy it is to put it in and remove it. This will mount to the industry standard Valley, DrawTite, Reese, Hidden Hitch and Curt fifth wheel rails. It does come with the pins and clips for attaching to the rails. It also has, let me show you right here and Ill show you in a minute here, when I lift it up it has spring-loaded safety chain attachments that you can hook your safety chains to. The finish on this is a durable ever-gloss powder coat finish that will resist rust and corrosion.

I dont have it pinned in right now, but I just want to show you. It probably weights 40 or 50lbs, so its not too bad. If you just lift it up. Then I wanted to show you, heres the, underneath, you can see the spring-loaded safety chain attachments. Then basically you just put it in.

You just line it up to the holes in the rails. It sits right down in there, nice and tight. Then you just take your pins, slide it through, put your clip on there and do that on all four and its secured in place. That should do it for our review on part #: 16085, the Curt spider gooseneck trailer hitch for fifth wheel rails.

The item is the perfect match for my recievers in the bed of my truck. The customer service is fantactic and knowledgable of their products and the item was delivered a day earlier than expected. Purchasing this product saved me $500. A local retailer who tried to sell me a similar product for $800 just for the hitch. The box the hitch came in was torn open in four areas but luckily all the hardware was still in the box upon delivery and it dropped into the recievers with alittle banging from my mallet. Thanks.52679

  • Is the hitch ball on the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails welded in?
  • Yes, the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails, part # 16908, is solidly welded on. It requires fifth wheel base rails and a bracket kit for mounting (sold separately). I spoke with my contact at Curt Manufacturing and she said the ball cannot be replaced since it would compromise the integrity of the product.

  • Measuring for a Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Trailer Adapter
  • To measure correctly for a Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Trailer Adapter (see link) you will need to have your vehicle and trailer positioned level. If your truck is at a pitch or parked on a grade, and the trailer is level, the measurement will not be correct and the trailer will not be level when towing. Adding extra inches to an adapter, to clear bed rail mounted accessories, will cause the trailer to be towed out of level and will increase stress on the hitch and the towing vehicle along with neg

  • Recommendation for High Capacity 5th Wheel Setup in a 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 Long Bed
  • I would recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, 22,000 lbs, item # RP30033, for a high weight capacity fifth-wheel hitch that can accept a gooseneck hitch like the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails, item # 16085. Along with this kit you would need the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit, item # RP30035, and fifth wheel wiring for the bed of your pickup like the Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness with 7-Pole - Dodge with Factory Tow Pack

  • Recommendation of Gooseneck Adapter Plates or a Gooseneck Hitch for a 2006 GMC Sierra Pickup
  • If you already have the fifth-wheel rails installed in the bed of your truck then I would go with a Gooseneck Plate so that you do not have to install a new under bed mount system and make new holes in the truck bed. Cost will be less if you use a gooseneck plate also, plus there is the added advantage that if you want to tow a fifth-wheel trailer you will be able to use a fifth-wheel hitch without a gooseneck adapter. A gooseneck to fifth-wheel trailer adapter would be another expense and does

  • Choosing Between Gooseneck Hitch or Adapter on Fifth Wheel Rails for 2006 Ford F250
  • Without knowing which installation kit was used to install the hitch that was on the vehicle previously I cannot say for certain if the holes will line up, but there is a fair chance that they will. I would recommend installing the fifth wheel rails, and using a rail mounted gooseneck ball like the Draw-Tite model, part # 6002 or Curt # 16085. Adapting the fifth wheel rails to accept a gooseneck ball is much simpler and usually less expensive that using an adapter on a gooseneck ball to pull

  • Compatibility of Curt Spyder Gooseneck Adapter with Husky Fifth Wheel Rails
  • The Curt Spyder Gooseneck Adapter Plate is compatible with Valley fifth wheel install rails, and Husky rails were manufactured by Valley. It is a fairly safe bet that the Adapter Plate will most likely be compatible with your rails. You can confirm this by comparing the spacing of the slots on your existing rails to those shown in the photo I provided. If the center-to-center dimension of the mounting slots is 20-1/2 inches, the Curt Spyder would indeed work with your existing rails.

  • Comparing the Curt Spyder and Pro Series Gooseneck Trailer Hitches for 5th Wheel Rails
  • First, I have included a link to all of the gooseneck hitches we carry that fit in 5th wheel rails. The Curt Spyder, # 16085, has a low profile design and it is heavier than the Pro Series plate style hitch # 49080. Besides that, there really are not a lot of differences. The big advantage that the Pro Series hitch has is that it can be oriented so that the ball is closer to the back of the truck for more clearance when towing with a short bed truck. For me, I like the Pro Series plate bet

  • The brackets will install onto the frame of your 1997 K2500, to determine exactly where you will need to find the correct location of the rails for the hitch and then install them in relation to where the rails will need to be installed. To determine the location of the rails you will need to measure 30-15/16 inches from the rear of the truck bed to the rear edge of the rear hitch rail if you have an 8 ft bed and 26-3/16 inches if you have a short bed. • Why Would a Gooseneck Trailer Shift When it is Unhooked
  • The shift you may be experiencing when unhooking your gooseneck or fifth wheel trailer most likely has nothing to do with the ball of your adapter sitting too high. It most likely is just from the truck and trailer not sitting level. Which if this is the case I would recommend you chock the wheels with something like a MaxxTow Wheel Chock # MT70073 when connecting or disconnecting. You will want to have your trailer sitting as level as possible though. However, there are no adjustable height
