Video Transcript for Curt Gooseneck 16085 Review

Today were going to review part #: 16085. This is the Curt spider gooseneck trailer hitch for fifth wheel rails. This spider gooseneck trailer hitch is designed to fit on the above bed rails in your truck bed if you want to switch to hooking up to a gooseneck trailer. This does have a capacity of 25,000lbs, gross towing weight capacity. It has a two and 5/16ths size trailer hitch ball. It does require a fifth wheel base rails and a bracket kit which are sold separately or if you already have them installed in your vehicle.

For demonstration purposes I am showing it installed in rails because I want to show you how easy it is to put it in and remove it. This will mount to the industry standard Valley, DrawTite, Reese, Hidden Hitch and Curt fifth wheel rails. It does come with the pins and clips for attaching to the rails. It also has, let me show you right here and Ill show you in a minute here, when I lift it up it has spring-loaded safety chain attachments that you can hook your safety chains to. The finish on this is a durable ever-gloss powder coat finish that will resist rust and corrosion.

I dont have it pinned in right now, but I just want to show you. It probably weights 40 or 50lbs, so its not too bad. If you just lift it up. Then I wanted to show you, heres the, underneath, you can see the spring-loaded safety chain attachments. Then basically you just put it in.

You just line it up to the holes in the rails. It sits right down in there, nice and tight. Then you just take your pins, slide it through, put your clip on there and do that on all four and its secured in place. That should do it for our review on part #: 16085, the Curt spider gooseneck trailer hitch for fifth wheel rails.

The item is the perfect match for my recievers in the bed of my truck. The customer service is fantactic and knowledgable of their products and the item was delivered a day earlier than expected. Purchasing this product saved me $500. A local retailer who tried to sell me a similar product for $800 just for the hitch. The box the hitch came in was torn open in four areas but luckily all the hardware was still in the box upon delivery and it dropped into the recievers with alittle banging from my mallet. Thanks. 52679

  • The Reese adapter # RP30154 for the 2014 Rams with the prep package has the 2 wider sets of mounting slots at 20-1/2 and 29 inches on center side to side but not the inner set at 10 inches apart. The Curt Spyder gooseneck plate # 16085 will fit in the 20-1/2 inch slots on the adapter. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you. • Measuring for a Gooseneck to 5th Wheel Trailer Adapter
  • To measure correctly for a Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Trailer Adapter (see link) you will need to have your vehicle and trailer positioned level. If your truck is at a pitch or parked on a grade, and the trailer is level, the measurement will not be correct and the trailer will not be level when towing. Adding extra inches to an adapter, to clear bed rail mounted accessories, will cause the trailer to be towed out of level and will increase stress on the hitch and the towing vehicle along...

  • Will Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, # 16085, Fit in Reese 5th WHeel Trailer Hitch Rails
  • The Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, # 16085, is compatible with the Reese 5th wheel rails you have. I have included a link to the installation details for this hitch for you to view. We do have several options for gooseneck trailer hitches that fit in 5th wheel rails. The most economical is Pro Series 25K Gooseneck Plate, # 49080. The benefit of this hitch is that it can be mounted with the ball closer to the rear of the truck to provide an offset if you have a short bed truck....

  • Recommendation of Gooseneck Adapter Plates or a Gooseneck Hitch for a 2006 GMC Sierra Pickup
  • If you already have the fifth-wheel rails installed in the bed of your truck then I would go with a Gooseneck Plate so that you do not have to install a new under bed mount system and make new holes in the truck bed. Cost will be less if you use a gooseneck plate also, plus there is the added advantage that if you want to tow a fifth-wheel trailer you will be able to use a fifth-wheel hitch without a gooseneck adapter. A gooseneck to fifth-wheel trailer adapter would be another expense...

The Reese Signature Series fifth-wheel hitch system uses a puck style attachment in the bed of the truck that is not compatible with the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Fifth Wheel Rails, item # 16085. • Comparing the Curt Spyder and Pro Series Gooseneck Trailer Hitches for 5th Wheel Rails
  • First, I have included a link to all of the gooseneck hitches we carry that fit in 5th wheel rails. The Curt Spyder, # 16085, has a low profile design and it is heavier than the Pro Series plate style hitch # 49080. Besides that, there really are not a lot of differences. The big advantage that the Pro Series hitch has is that it can be oriented so that the ball is closer to the back of the truck for more clearance when towing with a short bed truck. For me, I like the Pro Series...

  • Recommendations for Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer with a Short Bed Truck with a Gooseneck Hitch
  • Since you have a short bed truck I would not recommend you use a fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter to tow your RV. The problem will be that you will not have enough clearance to make 90 degree turns with the RV because of the lack of clearance between the front of the trailer and the cab of your truck. Some fifth wheel trailers do not recommend the use of adapters so you will want to check the owners manual of the trailer as well. Honestly the best recommendation I could give you would...

  • Compatibility of Curt Spyder Gooseneck Adapter with Husky Fifth Wheel Rails
  • The Curt Spyder Gooseneck Adapter Plate is compatible with Valley fifth wheel install rails, and Husky rails were manufactured by Valley. It is a fairly safe bet that the Adapter Plate will most likely be compatible with your rails. You can confirm this by comparing the spacing of the slots on your existing rails to those shown in the photo I provided. If the center-to-center dimension of the mounting slots is 20-1/2 inches, the Curt Spyder would indeed work with your existing rails.

  • Can the Curt Quick Goose 2 Gooseneck Trailer Hitch be Used with a 5th Wheel Adapter
  • The limiting factor on a 5th wheel trailer to gooseneck adapter is going to be the trailer itself, not the hitch. The Curt Quick Goose, # C640-659, will accept any adapter that is designed to attach to a gooseneck ball (see link). Another option is to install a 5th wheel trailer hitch installation kit designed for your truck and then use a gooseneck adapter that fits in the above the bed rails, like # 16085. I would recommend installing the fifth wheel rails, and using a rail mounted gooseneck ball like the Draw-Tite model, part # 6002 or Curt # 16085.
