Today were going to review part number SL716SS. This is the Redline Bolt On stainless steel spring latch. This enclosed trailer part will feature a stainless steel spring and pin and the base its attached to is an aluminum base. The pin diameter on this is 7/16 of an inch. Just to show you how this operates, theres two retaining pins thatll hold the bolt open. In the open position theres roll pin as you can see right here.
That goes through the bolt so basically when you move this, you can just pull it until this roll pin right here goes past the retaining pins and then turn it and itll hold the latch open. To release it is just turn it until the roll pin disengages the retaining pins and itll close it, spring on release and close it. A few dimensions on this; the total overall length of this piece is going to be 7 inches. The overall height on this is going to be 1 3/8 inches. Dimensions of the base I want to give you, base is going to be about 3 3/8 x 1 .
There are mounting holes drilled in so this can be bolted on. The size of the holes are 3/16 of an inch. Let me give you a measurement from center to center. The long will be 1 7/8 and the short distance will be 1 inch even. Again, just to show you how this would operate is if you would just pull this until the pin goes past the retaining pins and thatll hold it open and to release it is just pull back, turn it and thatll let t close.

I ordered one a part in the afternoon, recieved a confirming email minutes after ordering, a shipping email, and the part came 2 days later. Easy. Fast.
We haven't used the product yet but the build quality and materials are exceptional. I feel that I got exactly what I needed at a great value. The action on the bolt and the spring are very smooth and strong and the retaining pins to hold the bolt in the open position work very well.
It broke. I'm not sure what happened, could be something that I did. I had to drill a hole in it in order to fasten it to the trailer. It lasted for about 6 months and cracked between the two holes. The body of the latch is aluminum, I'll go with steel when I get sick of strapping it up.
7/16 pin worked just fine, didnt need the bracket, but had to order all, cause could not find a 7/16 size pin anywhere, just put it on trailer, removed small pin, then gently hammered it back in, we are good
My specific use was not for a trailer, but for a dog cage that I built. The picture I attached shows the latch slightly modified only in height. I had to run the mounting bracket through a table saw so it fit better on the 1" square tube. The aluminum base was perfect in my case so that I could weld the bracket to the cage door. For reference, the cage is 6061 and the latch bracket welded just fine. Anyways, the latch itself has held up perfectly and is as solid as the day I bought it. I would absolutely recommend this latch for a trailer or whatever other project you have.
My trailer gate had a pin/cotter pin style pin that was a total pain to take on and off. I installed these and taking my gate down is a breeze. If I had a complaint it would be that the black rubber grips came off almost immediately. Not a big deal because they work fine without them
This latch was exactly what I needed to make a tailgate on my trailer rebuild. Stainless steel & aluminum construction won't rust & it works great with the aluminum plate I made to take the bolt. No rattles. I would highly recommend it for your project.
Only con: The rubber nipple comes off, so I just threw it away. Not needed

Your product is working flawlessly. One year later and no problems with no rust which is one of the reasons I purchased your latches. Im extremely pleased with the product and would purchase again or recommend them to anyone else.
Well built. Used for a custom trailer tailgate latch. Would have been better if the frame was stainless, but it works great.

this is the best latch i could find anywhere and stainless steel/aluminum to boot. It is also cheaper than the zinc steel rust pins you'll find on auction and marine supply sites etc. The product video was very helpful as it showed all sides of the item and measurements. I used two for tailgate latches and i couldn't have been happier with the results. This is a quality item for an outstanding price.
This is two very good results from orders to etrailer.Previous was for light lenses and perfect and half the price of competitors.
I used the latches on a shed door I rebuilt, installed them and love the way they work and secure the door. The quality of these latches are excellent and know they will hold up to the weather conditions they will partially endure.

These latches work great and ETrailer has great customer service. They were prompt in shipping and you can't beat the price, I'm using the latches on my landscape leaf vac trailer for a removable rear retaining wall. These latches are just what we needed to make moving it out of the way for unloading possible.
Great product. These were the perfect part I needed for a recent tailgate project. The aluminum base allowed me to weld directly to the tailgate, and with stainless pins, no worries of corrosion. Definitely will order again.

The stainless steel bolt on latch is working fine and still looks like new.
This is a well constructed latch. Was used on one of my shed barn doors at the bottom and latches it thru my shed ramp to hold the door tight when closed. Worked great. Being stainless steel it should last forever.

Working perfectly like it did the day it was installed
Product was exactly what it was supposed to be very happy with them only thing that could be changed is to have the bolt holes a standard size I had to drill out the holes to fit a 1/4 inch bolt
This product is of good quality but one thing to note is that the main frame that holds the pin and spring is aluminum and not stainless steel. So it should not rust but the caveat is that you cannot weld it onto the typical steel frame of what it is being mounted on, you will need to drill and bolt it to that surface.
My scenario is a utility trailer where the back end (tail gate that folds down) is all steel so no welding is possible. You cannot weld aluminum to steel. Why they designed it that way I am not sure.
Also the diameter of the rotating pin is smaller than what I am replacing. (was 1/2" now 3/8") No big deal but rattles a bit more. The installer welded on a flat washer to close the gap.

1 year update: no change to my original review. The latch is functioning great. I would absolutely buy another one and would recommend it as well.
