Hello cargo haulers, today we're gonna be taking a look at Erickson's flat bungee cord. These are available in sizes from 12 inches up to 42 inches and come in a variety of colors. Think about your traditional round bungee cords. And, when you put them on how they have a tendency to roll or slide, and particularly your cargo underneath of it is able to roll or slide, with these flat bungee cords. You get more surface area contacting your cargo, and therefore you get a more secure grip and a more secure ride for your load. Man Particularly around the edges of your cargo.
You can see how it's going to conform better, providing a more secure grip. And if you we're to get closer to the edges of your cargo, it's going to prevent the strap from rolling off. Man Your traditional bungee cords. You'll probably use to seeing a metal hook with maybe a rubber coating on it. And a lot of times what happens is that rubber coating ultimately cracks and breaks off.
And then you see rusting underneath on the metal. Well these are a polycarbonate hook, so you won't have to worry about that cracking, breaking, or rusting. They're not only great for your trailers like we're showing off today, but they're also great for your truck bed, ladder racks, even cargo carriers. And what I would recommend is if you've got a large load to secure and say your truck bed, check out one of Erickson's heavy duty tarps and pair it with a couple of these to get that secured down, you'll have a great ride, safe ride for your load. Parts were intact and all accounted for; instructions in English and several other languages, were concise and fairly clear. My installation was on a Honda CRV (2015).
Several caveats: as some others have noted, the cut out you make on the plastic panel under your car that will allow you to bolt the unit properly to the frame, should be cut a little wider by 1/2 inch, or so. The dimensions given in the instructions for the cutout fail to indicate exactly where to start measuring from.
I had help installing it; it's heavy and awkward lying on your back, and another strong pair of arms and nimble hands is an enormous help.
Great Item. I used these flat bungee straps to secure carbon fiber sailboat masts to my trailer. The flat profile seems to hold them more securely than the more common round bungee straps.
