Manual parking brake kit works with hydraulic drum brakes that have a parking brake linkage already installed. Doubles as an emergency mechanical breakaway system.

Features:

  • Manual parking brake keeps your hydraulic brakes activated without any worries of losing pressure or leaking fluid
    • Parking brake linkages must be pre-installed on your brake assemblies for hookup
    • Lever mounts on your trailer tongue for simple access
  • 4' Long chain attaches to lever to act as a mechanical breakaway
    • tugs lever to activate trailer brakes in event of separation from tow vehicle
  • Kit includes:
    • Brake lever with spacer
    • Front and rear cables
    • Mechanical breakaway chain
    • Spring, clamps, S-hooks, washers and nuts for installation

Specs:

  • Cable length: 15' 1/4"
  • 1-Year warranty

To install this kit, feed the ends of the parking brake cable through the backing plates on your brakes and attach each end to the park linkages. Mount the lever on your trailer tongue so it's within easy reach, and you'll be able to activate your brakes with a simple tug.

If breakaway occurs, the mechanical breakaway system will pull the lever that is mounted on the tongue to the "on" position. The rear cable then tugs at the park linkage inside the brake to activate it.

The product is fine it’s etrailer that has issues.
Packaging is horrible. Product arrived in its OEM box that has holes on each end to act as grab handles. Obviously to most this would be a problem especially since the parts were loosely thrown into the box. Also only one piece of packaging tape was used that was not functioning when the package arrived.
Now I have to take more time to identify which parts are missing.

  • Adding Parking Brakes To Jayco Feather 19XUD
You are only be able to add parking brakes to your trailer brakes if those brake assemblies are already equipped with a parking brake actuator. You can tell if your brakes are equipped with a parking brake by looking at the backing plate-there will be an actuating lever at the top of the brake assembly that attached to parking brake cable (see photo). If your brakes are not equipped with a parking brake feature, then you could wire a switch that would power the brakes when you are parked,...

  • Recommendation for Adding Parking Brake to Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies
Most trailers do not come with parking brakes, but you can add them with certain electric brake assemblies. If your trailer has 7 inch brakes, then you will want the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit w/ Parking Brakes - 7" - Left/Right Hand Assemblies - 2.2K # K23-103-104-00. If your trailer has 10 inch brake assemblies, then you will want # K23-086-087-00. The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly with Parking Brake - 10" - Left Hand - 3,500 lbs # K23-086-00 and the right side # K23-087-00 are a fit for your 2011 Earthbound Dakota. You will also want the Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes # T2385200. The maximum capacity you listed is for the combination of the axles not each axle based on what I see online as well as the 4 bolt mount on the axles and 5 bolt pattern you mention for the wheels.

  • Parts Needed To Convert M1101 Military Trailer To Electric Drum Brakes
Currently Dexter only offers either the Self-Adjusting Brakes # 23-464-465 or Brakes With Parking Brake # 23-112-113 which will fit your 1997 M1101 trailer. Both of these are sets of brakes for the left and right while the Drum # 42866UC3 is offered as a single unit so you will need to order 2 of the drums. The drum will include the bearings, races, grease seal, cap and lug nuts for a 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. You will likely need the Dexter Breakaway and Parking Kit # T2385200 should...

  • Operation of Parking Brake on Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies
The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly w/ Parking Brake # K23-086-00 and # K23-087-00 both utilize the 12V power from your electric brake controller for regular brake operation or the 12V breakaway battery for emergency braking, but utilizes the manual lever on the backside of the brake assembly for a mechanical brake to hold your trailer in place when the parking brake cable assembly is used. For this mechanical parking brake feature Dexter doesn't offer an assembly for their brake...

  • How Far Does the Dexter Hub # 84556UC3 Center Bore Extend From the Mounting Face of Hub?
I went out to the warehouse to measure the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 5 # 84556UC3 and the center bore will stick out 1-3/4 inches from the hub face and the dust cap will add 7/8 inch. These hubs will work well on the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles - 89" Long - 3,500 lbs # T3584F-EZ-8974. • How to Attach Dexter Parking Brake Kit with Breakaway to Hydraulic Drum Brakes
Hello Andrew, Great choice on installing the Dexter K23-112-113 brake backing plates with the parking brake lever, and you're totally on the right track. The good news is, you don't actually need any special adapter kit to hook up your existing parking brake cable. Here’s how to make it all come together: First, mount the outer cable housing into the little...

  • How Can I Convert My Stock Emergency Brake to Hand-Operated on 1967 Ford F100 4x4?
Hello Hal, The only thing that we have is recommended for trailer brakes. I am not saying that it won't work, but by installing it on a different application would void the warranty because it is not made for vehicles. We have the Dexter Parking Brake Kit with Breakaway for Hydraulic Drum Brakes # T2385200, but like I said that is for trailers. I would try reaching out to a company that has parts for vintage trucks, they will know the parts you need for this kind of conversion.

  • Would Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit # T2385200 Work on Sloan Kwik Load Trailer
Thanks for the picture. Based on that it looks like the part # T2385200 is almost an exact replacement. Normally it's used for hydraulic brake setups so I don't know how it would work for you, but if your setup has a way to make it work and the cable setup of this kit matches what you have it really looks like it would work for you.

  • Does the Parking Brake Handle Have to Be Centered on the Trailer Frame
You would want to have the handle as centered as possible on your trailer frame so that it will activate your brakes as evenly as possible, but the cable can slide through the angled tube so if it isn't perfectly centered the overall tension in the cable will provide even tension on both brake assemblies.
