I have a 34 foot motorhome, Forest River Georgetown, and I was told the proper weight for the air is 92 pounds. I cannot find a placard anywhere and I looked in the owners manual which covers several different models but nothing specific about tire pressure in the manual. My question is this:
If the tire pressure has to be 92 psi, what is the total pressure required from the compressor to pump the tires up to 92 psi? I have been told it's considerably more but until I can find out how much more, I won't know what kind of compressor to get or how to go about getting air in the tires when someone actually comes out to put it in by running a service call. Also, I can round down to 90 psi if it makes the mathematics and easier.
Thank you very much for your kind reply.
Hi Bruce, To lift your trailer we'll first need to check of the suspension and see if you have torsion axles or a leaf spring suspension. If you have torsion axles then I'll need to see the axle tag in order to determine what…
You can add larger wheels and tires to a trailer as long as you have enough room for the larger size. The main clearance issues we find when putting larger tires and wheels on a trailer is from the top of the tire to the fender and from the inside…
In order to determine the torque rating for the lug nuts on your trailer you will need to know check out the chart I attached that shows all of the torque specs for all the trailer lugs available based on stud size, wheel material and wheel size.
For a single axle trailer, you want the shackle strap to be able to move so that you have the spring deflection needed for your suspension. Angled like the photo or even almost vertical is fine you just don't want the shackle strap to bind…
The closest radial tire size I would have to replace the 4.80-12 bias tire size is the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145R12 Radial Trailer Tire #AM10130. The 4.80-12 bias tire is 20.7 inches tall and 4.9 inches wide. The 145R12 radial tire is 21.3 inches…
For a spare tire and wheel on your 2023 Coleman Lantern 17B use the Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C - Galvanized Wheel #AM32182 or White Wheel #AM32181.
The smallest diameter 13 inch trailer wheel and tire will have a diameter of 24.1 inches (ST175/80-13). There are 3 common 12 inch trailer tire sizes: 4.80-12 has a diameter of 20.5 inches, 5.30-12 has a diameter of 21.9 inches, and 145/80-12 has a…
Your math is correct in your trailer weight load example. If a fully-loaded tandem axle trailer weighs 4000-lbs then each of the 4 tires will bear 1/4th of that load, or 1000-lbs. In this case a tire rated for 1300-lbs would provide a good safety…
The difference between an load range C and load range D tire in the same size is the capacity and psi rating. The two tires will still have the same dimensions and fit on the same wheel. The D rated tire has a higher capacity. For a ST175/80D13…
Load range B trailer tires are going to have a lower capacity than C load range tires. Basically that, psi rating, and the ply rating are the only differences. A higher load range tire would last a little longer than lower load ranges of the same…
Typically, a wider tire will offer more stability, but with a small, light trailer any advantage provided by the wider tire would be tiny. There are some differences in the two tires you mentioned that could possibally make the tire for your setup.…
