Is this right for you? Product Expert Kathleen M says:

Yes, if you:

  • Tow a couple times a year and need a basic but sturdy weight distribution system
  • Want to avoid the hassle of disconnecting anything to back your rig up or to tow in the rain
  • Have a trailer with 400 lbs – 600 lbs of tongue weight

No, if you:

  • Travel through areas with very high winds where you'll need every bit of sway control available
  • Have a van or low-riding car that requires more ground clearance than you can get with round bars
  • Hate noise - the steel on steel brackets can create a racket, especially during turns

Create a more stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

UPS tore the box to pieces and lost the lever arm needed to load the spring bars onto the hitch. etrailer shipped a replacement out the same day I called so my customer was not inconvenienced. simply awesome customer service!

The Blue Ox is exactly what I needed for my 2018 Titan to pull my Ozark 1650 without even knowing its back there. It sets up easy and does make a difference even with an ultralight camper. Makes long trips with my travel trailer painless. I had an issue with a damaged package that wasn't received as it was sent back. I called eTrailer immediately to find out the issue and was met with wonderful customer service. I was instantly relieved to find that during the phone conversation (Ashley? not sure of her name) I was already booked to get the same Blue OX WDH rushed to me. This saved me from scrapping my weekend camping plans and showed the high level of professionalism and expertise that etrailer brings to the table. I WILL ALWAYS give my business to etrailer for this very reason.

This is a very good weight distribution hitch for light weight trailers. Installation was fairly simple, but can be cumbersome if you have to make any changes. Using a flat level surface and a tape measure is key. Recommend you get a tongue jack stand along with this, otherwise you’ll have a difficult time raising the trailer enough to get the arms on. Keeping it from being 5 stars, the packaging was absolutely awful. Multiple holes in the box that were taped up, parts had banged around inside the box chipping some of the paint. Hopefully this gets corrected in the future.

I bought a new (to me) 2011R-vision Trail Sport. When installing the hitch with the help of the previous owner, (who had recommended the Blue Ox Hitch from etrailer), we could not get the left spring bar to lock into the receiver. After repeated attempts to no avail, we wedged the spring bar in and and after applying weight, it stayed in place and I was able to limp home. On arrival I unhooked the trailer and brought the hitch to my work bench where I discovered a metal burr from welding inside the left receptacle. I was able to grind the burr of with my Dremel tool and the hitch is now working properly. This project took well over 2 hours and was extremely frustrating! The previous owner had an older version of the Blue Ox hitch and I was fortunate that he had some experience with installation, none the less we were both exasperated. And one final complaint, the edges of the pry bar were sharp enough to cut my hand but a touch up with a file and some emery cloth resolved the problem. I'm not one to complain but I was pretty frazzled by the end of the 40 minute drive home.

by:

The parts were all included and quality built. It was simple to install and easy to read instructions. Once I installed the product, I drove around the block and could not tell the trailer was even on the back of the truck. It has smoothed out the towing.

by:

These are very nice! Appear well made and easy to install. They will help a lot pulling our little travel trailer.

Great communication, good price, fast d elivery

Haven’t towed with it yet but install was easy and no longer makes my suv sag.

There was a UPS delivery problem with my initial order. The response from etrailer was fantastic, prompt responses and very quick shipping on the follow up order. Parts are all in good condition and accounted for. This appears to be a very nicely designed and sturdy hitch. Can't wait to test it.

Review from a similar 2-Point Weight Distribution in Weight Distribution Hitch

Best hitch for E-Pro 16BH by far. I have towed my camper with 2021 F-150 for a few months without this hitch. Not bad but let me say that with this Blue Ox things have improved dramatically. Everything is level and sway has reduced significantly. I chose this hitch due to price as well as the the trailer tongue set up of my Flagstaff E-Pro 16BH propane and battery configuration. I assume same for E-Pro 16BH and GeoPro 16BH as these are the same build. I had to remove my propane tray to install this but things fit like a glove and was able to re-install the tray and tanks without having to relocate anything. The install instructions mention measurements from the center of the receiver which I found to be a slightly long for my trailer- see pics with the 20" and 24" marks

Love this hitch! Looked at the higher cost ones, went with this one. 1st trip was a short one. Real test was a 2 week vacation to Colorado from Louisiana. The wind across north Texas is no joke!!!!! I seen other trailers swaying all over the road. Was able to keep my speed with minimal sway and movement. I could not imagine what that drive is like without a WD system.

  • Weight Distribution for a 2009 Honda Pilot and 3,000 Pound Travel Trailer
First you will want to check the wording in the owners manual very carefully. If it says that you cannot use weight distribution then I cannot advise going against that recommendation. However if it states it could be used it is just not recommended then I would contact a Honda dealer to get further input. If you determine that weight distribution can be used then you will need to go by the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind...

I looked up pictures of your car hauler and as long as your Car Mate trailer has an A-Frame style tongue a weight distribution system can be used, unless the manufacturer says not to. To determine which weight distribution system will best suit your needs you will need to determine loaded tongue weight. I have linked a FAQ article on how to do this. You will need to pick out a system that your tongue weight falls right around the middle of the weight distributions tongue weight range. I...

  • Can You Back Up with a Blue Ox Weight Distribution System Installed
In general weight distribution systems don't like tight jackknife turns that you can get yourself into when reversing a trailer. The Blue Ox Weight Distribution # BLU45FR that you referenced is no exception to that. If you are backing up mainly in a straight line this system would work great for you. If you will end up in a tight turn you will need to remove the spring bars. I attached a link to a help article for weight distribution systems for you to check out as well.

I will start by address if you need weight distribution or not and what it can help with. Weight distribution with sway control will help with sagging in the rear of your vehicle as it does what its name implies. It distributes the weight of your trailer across more than just the one point on your hitch. This means more weight can typically be carried, check your owner's manual for your capacities, and sway can be reduced by quite a bit. The arms coming off the head will have a good amount...
