Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Design lacking all but 1 bolt installed. I tried every configuration possible without success . Right rear horizontal either on or the other but not both were able to be installed. The only comfort is that this is to haul a 4 x 6 trailer with 2 kayaks of minimal weight .

by:

Great how to videos. Easy installation. I was disappointed that I didn’t get the dust cover for the 4 pin connector.

Comments
The Curt T-connector wiring should have a small rubber dust cover for the 4 pin connection. I sent your information over to customer service.

I purchased a 2020 Sorento and needed to tow trailers. I purchased the receiver as well as the T-connector wiring package. The wiring package was a breeze to put on, I followed the video from the web site, and had it installed in 15 minutes.

2014 KiaSorento

This is the second trailer wiring harness that I have installed on a Kia Sorento. The first was on my 2012 Sorento. This one is on my 2014 Sorento. Having used the online video installation instructions the first time around and having no problems, I went straight to the video for my 2014 Sorento. The Curt T-Connector kit makes wiring easy. No splicing, just plug in the matching connectors, mount the power converter and run a few wires for a ground and forward to your battery. Hiding the wires behind the hitch as per the instructions with cable ties gives a clean look. I also mounted a Curt plug receptacle to the hitch so that the connector is not just hanging on the safety chain holes. As you can see from the photo I believe this gives a clean , professional look.

My parts came very quick and were accur ate..ty

by:

Took about an hour to install and was fairly easy. My vehicle required the tail lights to be removed and the wiring fed up inside the fenders and the main power wire had to be under the vehicle to the battery.

by:
2017 KiaSorento

Started to mess with turn signals after about 6 months. Had to disconnect it to get turn signals to work correctly.

by:
2019KiaSorento

Easy to install, I like how it isolates the electrical system and it works great. Your video instructions were outstanding. With the video a five year old could install the wiring. This was installed in my 2019 Kia Sorento. The first pix shows in the back very low profile, the second pix shows inside the engine compartment, truly cool.

Comments
Ive had no issues at all. Works great. I did bottom-out once but it was my fault, deep ravine. The hitch seems to stabilize my rear end somewhat. Dont know if its good or bad. Forgot to mention, your wiring harness is super cool and easy to install.

Installation was fairly painless and quick. Hardest part was removing the taillights. But it works great and didn't have any issues at all.

by:

The harness connector c56256 not working properly. After installing trailer hitch looked good but the harness c56256 has problem, checked light left signal work brake light work but right signal not working.
I need to call or need nice replacement c56256 harness connector.

The real deal. Don't waste time and money with other companies. Order what you need from here and you know it will be right.

by:

My husband said it works great. The only issue was he had to run a wire from the back of the vehicle to the front to the battery. But, that is just because of the vehicle we have no fault of etrailer.

by:

Paid for 2 day shipping and received it 5 days later. Don’t pay for the faster shipping.

Works great. Glad I found it.

by:

The install video is a great help

by:

The second install - a "Upgraded" system worked great. It was a plug 'n play so I didn't have to splice, solder and tape wires. Your video and printed instructions were very clear and spot on. Screwed the flat 4-pole mounting bracket to the hitch frame and used JB Weld to bond the flat connector to the mounting bracket.

thanx,
bill

Extremely helpful video on etrailer website convenienced me to purchase this wiring harness for my 2018 Kia Sorento. Every bit as easy as pie! A well engineered harness with plenty of length on the wiring and all the plugs matched. You may need additional black zip ties on hand if you’re picky like me.

Comments
Installed it a year ago. Everything still works perfectly! Be sure to watch the video before you begin installation and you will be just fine!

Nicole T was a great saver of Get to g my vehicle ready to pull my trailer. The wiring harness I purchased thru a different supplier failed to ask a crucial vehicle option. It caused the wrong wiring harness to be purchased. I contacted Curt directly and Nicole T was on the job with her "A" game. She asked the right questions, allowing me to select the correct wiring harness. She arranged shipping to ensure I receive it as early as possible, the next day. Installation was quick & easy. Thank you Nicole T.

Comments
Great, it has lived up to my expectations. Again, without Nicole T knowledge of your products & ability to ask the required information, I would have had to postpone my trip & spend additional money. Thank you again Nicole T & Curt.

2017 KiaSorento

The item worked well until it recently failed for no particular reason that I can figure out. I have taken it apart almost entirely and still cannot get it to function without blowing a fuse. Was easy to install…. But will need to order a new one.

Comments
This sounds like the converter box on the trailer wiring has an internal problem which is usually caused by a short on the trailer wiring which is now causing the wiring harness to blow fuses. You will have to replace the trailer wiring harness, but before you do that, I would look over the trailer wiring to look for any signs of shorts like cut or exposed wires.

2016 KiaSorento

Simple to install only thing I didn't use that was sent was the butt connectors. Personally don't like that style . Small issue with preference is all. Looks like it was factory done and not after like other wireing harness that I have seen or used.

Comments
Have had one issue with it in a year. My right rear marker light will stay on if I leave the in line fuse in when no trailer is connected. Simple enough fix I dont pull a trailer that much so I just pull the fuse when Im not using it. Not sure if its auto manufacturer issue or trailer wiring issue but eh not that hard to overcome

  • Why Would Trailer Wiring of 2015 Kia Sorento Cause Blow Fuses in Vehicle
Grounding issues do not typically cause fuses to blow since typically they just stop circuits from working. An insufficient ground won't overload a circuit and cause it to blow a fuse.
