Wiring Your Towed Car with Hopkins
Wiring your car for flat towing has never been easier. No more testing wires or splicing into your electrical system. No need to painstakingly position multiple diodes beneath your vehicle. No worries about voiding your warranty. With this custom-fit towed vehicle wiring kit from Hopkins, all you have to do is plug the harness into your vehicle's existing wiring, which is located behind your car's tail light assemblies. No cutting, tapping, or splicing is required.
After plugging in the wiring harness, use the included bracket to mount the 4-way flat connector at the front of your towed car. An extension loop (sold separately) is required to connect your towed car to your RV.
Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?
Because your vehicle has a combined lighting system - wherein the brake signals and the turn signals are carried on a single wire - a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

Super easy to install once you figure out how to fish the connectors up through the body to the taillights. See YouTube if not sure. I really like that this did not require cutting into my wiring harness. High quality connectors snap into place maintain watertight integrity of the wiring harness. I did go buy plastic armoring for the wires that run the length of the frame, also lots of cable ties.

Towed vehIcle lights did not work until an additional ground wire was installed between the two vehicles. It would have been simpler to have had the ground wire in the entire length of the harness.

Basic plug and play technology. Video instructions on the etrailer website are the best. Everything went according what was on the video. The most difficult part was feeding the wire through the frame from the rear to the front. Using wire loom certainly helped make it easier.

Simple installation and excellent quality product! I installed this harness on my 2018 Jeep Wrangler. After one year it is still performing flawlessly. Don’t do like I did on my first tow vehicle and pay someone hundreds to thousands of dollars to do something so easy. Thank you etrailer and Hopkins for easy to follow instructions and videos!

2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
This harness works great for flat towing a Jeep Wrangler. The installation was straight forward and easy. It's nice to not have to run magnetic lights from the rear of the Wrangler to the tow vehicle anymore. Now, I just plug in to the adapter on the front aftermarket bumper.

The kit was a breeze to install and everything fit just like it stated on the instructions. It's as easy as just plug in and go with my 2017 Jeep Wrangler JKU behind my RV. I am a first time RV owner and was looking for a way to flat tow my Jeep Wrangler. etrailer made it so easy for me to understand what I should be doing and the best and safest way to accomplish it. Great product easy install. I found out on passenger side it was easier to drill with hole saw to pass wire trough cover .then made gromit out of rubber chiar/table cap .Sliced up side and noched for wires snapped right in. Product works great I would recommend .
