A Rightline Gear SUV tent is more economical choice than a camper. Better yet, it allows you to use your vehicle's cargo space and power receptacles to enhance your camping experience. The SUV tent works with any minivan, wagon, crossover, or truck with caps. The alligator clamping sleeve attaches securely around the rear of your vehicle. The large doors and windows have storm covers for those rainy days, and no-see-um mesh to block pesky bugs.
The 130G polyethylene plastic bathtub-style floor on the main tent blocks water at the tent base and has tape sealed seams to block moisture. The tent fabric is also WeatherGuard treated for waterproofing and the material is UV-protected and fire-resistant.
The included rain fly fits over the tent for protection from wet weather. The Rightline SUV tent fits snugly over the sides and rear hatch of your vehicle so that water can't run inside.
This large tent is packed with special features to make camping easier and more fun. Organize your camping supplies using the 4 gear pockets inside the tent. Hang a lantern on the overhead hook and use the glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls to find your way out of the tent at night without having to feel around in the dark.
Heavy-duty straps and nylon buckles secure the tent to your SUV body without scratching the finish, and the instructions are sewn right into the tent's storage bag so that they never get lost. Standard tent poles, guy lines and stakes are also used for setup.
The adjustable alligator clamping sleeve removes easily when you want to separate your vehicle from the tent and drive off to sightsee or grab some groceries. Your tent will stay standing and ready for your return. And you won't leave behind a gaping hole - the tent has a door that zips up to secure your shelter until you return. The alligator sleeve material can be rolled up and secured with the dowel and loop fasteners around the doorway.
When you're ready to pack up and go home, take down your tent and store it in the included storage bag. This roomy tent sleeps up to four adults.

A Rightline SUV tent is an economical alternative to a camper. It connects to your vehicle to add more living and sleeping space for camping. The alligator clamp allows easy removal of the tent when you want to use your SUV. Sleeps up to 4 adults.Overall I would rate this tent a 4 out of 5. It held up fairly well. It fit the back of my 2021 F250 FX4 SuperDuty/Leer cap about 90%. I had slight leakage into the tent near the area under the tailgate. It was maybe equivalent to 1/2 cup of water over a 6 day period in subfreezing weather, snowy conditions. I was not able to secure the straps under my truck. However, even with minor misfit I felt it performed nicely. Understand, the tailgate of the F250 Super Duty sits high off the ground. I suspect it may fit an F150 better, and SUV's even better. Vehicles with high rear bumpers/ tailgates will find difficulty completely sealing the tent to the vehicle. The zippers on the main entrance work ok - 7 out of 10 for them. They need beafed up. The fabric gets caught frequently when closing. Overall it's a great deal for the money.
Nice design. It's basically a big tent with a side vestibule that can surround the back hatch on your car. As far as the tent goes, it is well made and has a strong fabric floor. The tent poles are a little tricky to set up as the topmost pole is difficult to fit over the very taut walls. If you do the long poles last, it works better. But the end result is a fairly wind-proof tent. I have a Chevy Tahoe and the side port fits around that fine. There are a bunch of straps to attach it to the car and hold the vestibule connector in place. I didn't have much experience in how that holds up in the wind. It will depend on your car and is probably adjustable enough to work well. All in all a great tent concept and design. Of course you can't start your car with the tent attached - the exhaust is right at the tent wall. We used a small Mr. Buddy heater to heat the tent when we were sitting around on cold nights in our camp chairs in the tent. Ha.
Bought this to use with our Clam Shell Tear Drop trailer figuring that it might work if it was designed for large SUVs. Home run! Added an outdoor room to our rear kitchen. Kept the rain and bugs at bay AND was far easier to set up than I anticipated!
Generally this tent has worked well. It's great to have so much extra room while camping. Helps to keep things dry and organized. Setup is fairly complicated, and it definitely helps to have two people to set it up. One issue with the tent is the mesh sleeves snag easily on the poles. It helps to only straighten a section or two of the poles at a time, while pushing them into the sleeves. Also, any SUV tent like this will have gaps around where the tent sleeve attaches to the SUV. Depending on the contours of your vehicle, it may be helpful to have some strips of foam or something similar to fill gaps, especially to keep out bugs.
We can sleep in our van but wanted the attached tent as an enclosed living room. Maybe old people should avoid tents. We found it difficult to slide the poles through the material and to attach the tent to the van. We also did not find the instruction to be particularly clear. After one trial setup we gave the tent to our son.
I’m excited about the suv tent. It arrived yesterday and everything looks great. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to set it up until the spring as it’s 3 degrees outside with a wind chill of 17 below. I have purchased many items from etrailer and have never been disappointed with any products purchased at etrailer.
I recently purchased the Rightline Gear SUV Tent with Rainfly. We spent a wet weekend with it at a music festival and were very happy with the product. We used our Mazda CX-3 to access our clothing and supplies and set up two cots in the tent to get us off the ground. The tent was dry and we liked that we were able to stand up in it. (We are tall.)
We were glad we practiced setting up the tent before arriving in the rain at the festival. We found it a little complicated to attach to the car but with the practice we got it up in short order.
Our only beef were the tent pegs supplied. They were extremely flimsy and bent trying to get them in the hard ground. This should be rectified. We were fortunate to have packed some good metal pegs and borrowed some more. It would have been a disaster without them.
A well made product like this should be shipped with quality tent pegs.
I called etrailer and ordered a Rightline Gear Suv Tent for use on my 2007 Chev. Silverado P/U that has a camper shell. It arrived in just a few days and was everything I expected. The price was right and the quality of the material was good. We set it up and it worked great on the P/U. It gave me the extra room I needed. Plan to take it this summer and use it while prospecting in Alaska. I really liked the easy instructions that came with it.
etrailer does an excellent job of delivering items quickly and on time. The Rightline Gear tent is exactly as described. It definitely would go up more easily if staked first as recommended. However my trial run was in the driveway so staking was not an option. A concrete curb acted as a second person and brace. It is a very spacious and nicely constructed tent. I'm looking forward to a two week road trip and more ideal set up conditions.
I use this tent on the back of my full size truck(2002 dodge Ram) with a high topper from A.R.E. Its everything you need, my wife loves it and i told here you will never get me in a regular tent after staying in this. Quality made, wore my boots inside. Survived a massive storm in the Colorado Rockies, bounced right back to form.
Best money spent to date.
I Love it
I haven't been camping in a tent for a while. I bought this because I wanted to sleep in my car. I like this tent, it is a nice size and roomy. I had a little trouble hooking this to my car. I had an open gap on both sides. I'll have to work on this next time I go camping. I like this product & am glad I bought it.
What can I say... everything related to purchasing the SUV tent was excellent. Shipping was on point, actually arriving 1 day ahead of schedule! The product, the SUV tent itself, was perfect. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be... easy to setup and just an overall solid tent. Thank you etrailer!
Have to say, best purchase I've made. Quick setup, plenty of room. Wife, 2 kids and I have used it 4 times in the past year. No matter which vehicle I've used it with (Subaru Outback,GMC Yukon), it works perfect. Definitely recommend this for any person/family to use.
We traveled across country last year to pick up our tiny teardrop trailer in Ohio and bought this tent to use on the way there. While some of the straps were a bit difficult to figure out, we got the hang of it after 3 tries and used the tent a total of five times. It is SO NICE to climb out of the back of the bed in the SUV (in our case a Subaru Forester) and still have privacy and rain protection! We stored all our gear in the tent that had to come out to for us to sleep and that still left ample room to change clothes and so forth. We've sold the tent now that we have our trailer and the Toyota pick-up owner who bought it has already written me to say how well it fits and how much he enjoys it. Good purchase all around.
Works great
Durable and fits perfectly
Some years back, we took a road trip but bad weather forced my wife and me to set up our bed in the station wagon instead of a leaky tent, and we liked it. There were challenges though, with privacy, ventilation, and space. These are the challenges our new Rightline tent solves, and on our next road trip, we'll still sleep in the car, but in campgrounds, instead of expensive, generic motel rooms. We tested the tent - nothing unusual to report - but gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because the screens are not no-see-um mesh, and the poles are quite heavy and difficult to slide through the sleeves. It is still a good product, and we anticipate many years of use.
We absolutely loved this tent! We attached it to a Prius V. We took out the back two seats and built a platform for sleeping. We traveled eight thousand miles, camping from the west to the east coast and back with two not-so-little dogs. The tent was easy to set up and take down. More importantly, etrailer helped facilitate a zipper issue with the manufacturer. We were so impressed by the service we got from etrailer and Rightline. We cannot wait to go camping again. Even though we hit significant rain and wind along the way, the tent kept us absolutely dry. It's a great product and this is a great site.
We had never tried this type of tent and we’re a bit skeptical. But it is really great. It does take some patience when threading the support frame through the fabric, but it is nice and taut when up and fits our van really well. I really like that we can simply disconnect it from the van easily when we:head out for the day, and we can quickly reconnect it upon return. It really is a nice home under the stars!
After 1 year, we're happy with the tent and we've used it a bunch of times. We have a Ford Transit connect and it works well with the kids sleeping in the car and the parents sleeping in the tent portion. The things that could be improved: it's a bit hard to set up the tent because it's tall and big. My son ripped a zipper but I sewed it back up -- I wonder if it was made of stronger material if that could have been avoided.
The only problem is that the tent doesn’t fit tight to the sides of my SUV due to fender flares- although it was designed for my SUV, so it leaves gaps for bugs or rain. I fix that by draping a tarp over the SUV around the edge of the tent and used bungees to secure underneath. Last year we had a rain storm with high winds and stayed dry.
Great tent that doesn't leak. Pretty tough to set up on your own.
This product is really good. It held up in rain and wind even though I didn't set it up properly. No leaks, though. Plenty of room. It performs as advertised. The only problem I have is that it is a two-person set up. One person, especially when 5'4'' tall cannot properly set this tent up without a step ladder. It's a little weighty but that's expected for the size and durability. Instructions are relatively easy to follow.
Love this tent for the Back of My HHR ! I love being able to go out in the Mountains so much more enjoyable ! Everything fits in the back and I have an awesome room
