Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

Last year I installed the Sumo Springs (lighter load rated) front and rear and rear Koni FSD dampeners which helped noticeably on my 2017 Winnebago View 24J by stabilizing the ride.
I finally installed the Roadmaster rear anti sway bar RM 1209-120 immediately after receiving today. Absolutely worth the low cost for the major improvement in ride comfort and stability. These are direct bolt on replacements for the OEM Mercedes part and utilize the stock mounting bracket hardware.
For a total of less than $xxx I have completely transformed the ride of my Class C motorhome.

Excellent quality and a definite improvement in handling of my 2017 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 170” van. Would definitely recommend this .

Two parts to this:

1. The sway
bar comes with very nice polyurethane bushings and works good. Reduced the side-to-side sway on my class C RV quite a bit. A very high quality product. Fit is perfect. The only criticism I can make is that there was no guidance on torque settings. I got the attachment bolts as tight as I could with a 1/2 socket bar (about 18" long) Mercedes Dealership said they were not near tight enough.

2. The vendor, etrailer, service was outstanding. I had a trip coming up and needed this bar asap, and that's how they sent it... asap. As I recall I got it in a couple days. Thanks to them. They've helped me with getting other parts quickly, too.

Comments
Working just fine. In retrospect though, I maybe should have ed the heavier model, but that requires chassis mods that would have made the install more difficult. All-in-all it worked great on our trip from WA state up through BC and Yukon Territory to Anchorage, AK. No problems, no worries.

2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Delivery was prompt. Product was as advertised. Installation was straightforward, despite my aging bones and wimpy arms, and the instructions were adequate to the task. On the road, there was a noticeable improvement in side-to-side motion; not dramatic, but noticeable. This is what I expected and desired. Had I been looking for dramatic, I would have opted for the add-on bar, rather than the replacement. This one did not require drilling the frame, and besides, sometimes dramatic improvements in one aspect of the suspension come at the cost of detriment in other areas. This bar improved the overall handling, especially at low speed, without any detriment to that lovely Mercedes ride that I love so well. The exaggerated side-to-side movements that used to empty the counters every time I turned out of a driveway are gone. I recommend this bar without reservation.

As usual, etrailer shipped the Roadmaster anti-sway bar quickly. It arrived in two days and I installed it today on our Jayco Melbourne motor home. The motorhome is built on a Mercedes 3500 chassis. Installation was straight forward but it did help to have an impact wrench with 18mm socket.

by:

etrailer customer service is fantastic. They helped me decide on the product that best fit my needs and promptly got the order filled and delivered. This type of personal service is not found very often anymore. It is greatly appreciated though. I would not hesitate to use them again for my trailering needs.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

This product arrived on time, and is as described in company literature. I have installed the sway bars and the sumo springs on my 2019 Ford E3 26 foot Thor motorhome. Installation is fairly straightforward. Having said that, I am a retired farmer and I am quite familiar with this type of work. Having the proper tools makes the job go much quicker and easier. Installation of the front sway bar took a little under an hour. The rear sway bar is a bit more complicated to install, but he can be easily accomplished by someone of average mechanical skills, equipped with the proper tools. I strongly recommend removing the rear wheels to facilitate installation of the springs and the sway bar. I have not driven my motorhome yet, but will be taking an extended trip in March. I am looking forward to an improved ride.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

--Etralier & Roadmaster Anti-Sway-Bar Review--

I
do not do product reviews--but am doing so here simply to express the AWESOME Customer Service, Articles, & Products at etrailer.com!

I have an old 1988 7.3 IDI (N/A Diesel) E350 transporter van (extended length with hightop) that I have spent a decade working on and just opted for front and rear Roadmaster anti-sway-bars.

I am so grateful I ordered them from etrailer! etrailer made the purchase process INCREDIBLE & the anti-sway-bars installed easily in an evening.

CUSTOMER SERVICE:

Via a private browser I inadvertently placed my order & received an error.

Hitting the "Live Chat" & within moments August from etrailer.com had answered saying my order was not in the system & it was safe to redo the order (which I did in a regular browser).

Just hours after placing the order (7 PM Pacific Time) I realized there was a third Roadmaster option (1 5/8" thick rear anti-sway-bar) I did not notice (see below for details of Roadmaster fit for the 1975-1991 Ford van, as I have worked out).

I again hit "Live Chat", at 7 PM!, & Matthew from etrailer within moments talked with a tech and confirmed I had (thankfully) ordered the correct part.

The next morning I awoke to an email from George at etrailer.com saying my order had been shipped and would arrive on Tuesday (~5 days across the U.S.).

The tracking link showed a map tracking the order as well who processed the order at etrailer.com (George), who gathered the order at etrailer.com (Cody), and who packaged (shipped) the order at etrailer.com (Michael)--with pics of the person.

The order arrived well packaged--from the factory I think--with only 2 cosmetic punctures (see pics if concerned--but for heavy (~36 lbs each) & awkward items across the U.S.--no complaints here).

Upon arrival, I received (what I assume is automated--but still) an email from Carol to follow up on the order.

Incredible!

ARTICLES:

Since then I have scanned some of etrailer.com's articles & they seem honest & insight-fully written (like the article discussing the cost/benefit, return on investment, of solar power*).

PRODUCTS:

There are also rather specialty products on etrailer I have wondered about but for lack of time have never researched (nor stumbled upon elsewhere). For example Kat's Heater Ether Start Fluid Injection System.**

Plus, from what I have gathered, they have product experts on-hand, with their names & pictures.

Do you know anywhere else with such customer service?!?!?

ROADMASTER ANTI-SWAY-BAR FIT
(for the 1975 - 1991 Ford Econoline van):

For fit, what I've worked out using the Roadmaster Fitmaster website*** is there are 5 variants for the 1975-1991 REAR anti-sway-bar & one item for the front (but do double check me!):

Part #1139-108 with a 1 3/8" anti-sway-bar: not for diesel
Part #1139-117 with a 1 1/2" anti-sway-bar: recommended for diesel E350 (what I contacted customer support over)
Part #1139-119 / RM83ZR with a 1 5/8" anti-sway-bar
Part #1139-108 with 1 3/8" anti-sway-bar: FOR auto-chain vehicles.
Part #1139-198 with a 1 1/2" anti-sway-bar: FOR auto-chain vehicle.

Part #1139-100 is 1 3/8" & is the only anti-sway-bar for the FRONT (I understand).

Unfortunately I have yet to test drive as I must tie several things down first & wanted to get this review out ASAP. But all reviews I have read say these anti-sway-bars are night and day difference.

SUMMARY:

In sum, there in no other company in the U.S, I have ordered from in over a decade that has done such a STELLAR job as etrader.com.

(And fixing/modernizing a 30 year old diesel van has required me ordering MASSIVE parts).

If etrailer is not one of the best companies in America, I do not know who is.

Order from etrailer with complete confidence.

THANK YOU so much etrailer!

Keep up the INCOMPREHENSIBLE job!

May you all be blessed,

Good product and well-made aftermarket equipment. Good improvement in overall roll and sway. Easy to follow instructions made installation much easier than expected.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

The Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar is of excellent quality. All of the parts are heavy duty and fit exactly the way they should. I have a 2003 Fleetwood on a Workhorse W22 chassis and considering the age all of the factory bolts and nuts came off without any issues. Installation was easy following the printed instructions and the online video. I really recommend this product.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

Lousy because my sway bar is sitting on the floor in the corner of my basement. I ordered the bushing kit and it arrived without the metal straps that secure the bushings to the vehicle. After I contacted your company I was told I had to contact the chevy dealer, who of course, have nothing that fits. Their sway bar is nowhere near the diameter of the one i purchased. I've spent the last year searching swap meets for the items I need. Your product looks like it would be nice, but as it is, it's terrible. It's terrible, your company is terrible and it is highly doubtful I would recommend you to anyone.

Comments
It really seems like it was tough installation. I would like to help and I have a few questions to ask. Did your 2008 Chevy Suburban have the factory sway bar on it? I know that you would be reusing some of the factory hardware along with the bushings that come with the new sway bar to install it. Is it the factory end links that you need?

Very straightforward installation and all the parts were of high quality. This is a substantial, solid sway bar. My RV feels a lot more solid on the road in curves etc. Very satisfied with the product.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

First of all, shopping at etrailer has been a great experience. The products they have available are top notch, the fitment guidelines are very very helpful, and their customer service is the best. As for my Roadmaster anti-sway bar, it is an improvement. I don't have as much body sway when passing semi's, and the speed when going around curve's, has increased by 5mph. I like what the sway bar has added to my motorhome.

Comments
After using this product for over a year now, my opinion has not changed, I like the drivability that the sway bar has added to my motorhome. Very satisfied with both etrailer and Roadmaster.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased the rear anti sway bar and end link kit because my 2017 Ford F350 single SRW did not come with a rear sway bar from the factory. The sway bar came with instructions and fits the truck well. The end link kit did not come with instructions, so I had to find an existing hole in each side of the frame to mount them to. Although there is a larger hole in the frame above the hole that I was mounting the end links through, there is not enough room to put a wrench on the nut inside the frame. So I welded the nut to a 1"x2"x3/16" steel plate. Then I was able to slip the nut/plate assembly into the frame and tighten the bolt. Additionally, there are no bolt torque specs, so I torqued the 1/2" bolts to 80 ft-lbs, and the 3/8" bolts to 60 ft-lbs. I have to hope that is sufficient. Of course, I shouldn't have to hope. That information should be included in instructions, and the nut/steel plate assemblies (or some other option) should be included in the end link kit. Although the finished product appears to be good quality, I gave it 3 stars due to the incomplete end link kit.

Comments
I will email you the instructions we have on this.
-- Etrailer Expert Sierra K - 01/18/2022
The Roadmaster anti-sway bar has been a tremendous addition to my truck. I carry a 2,500 lb. Lance truck camper in the bed of the truck. Although the truck can easily accommodate the weight of the camper, it is top heavy at a loaded height of 11 to the top of the AC unit. Prior to installing the anti-sway bar, the truck swayed significantly. The anti-sway bar has eliminated excessive sway. On center, the truck will still sway, but as I round a curve, the truck will sway a little bit and then just stop swaying as the anti-sway bar is loaded. It gives me much greater confidence driving around curves at speed. I can typically maintain the same speed as most traffic around me. I highly recommend the Roadmaster anti-sway bar for anyone carrying a truck camper.

Review from a similar Sway Bar with Bushing Kit in Anti-Sway Bars

I purchased this sway bar for my F350 to replace factory bar to reduce sway while hauling my very heavy (~5000 lb) truck camper. The bar fit perfectly, was easy to install, and has performed beautifully. Shortly after installation, I took the truck/camper on an 8000+ mile cross country trip and this sway bar performed great! Excellect product; much better than factory sway bar.

For a Class C motorhome style of the 3500 chassis (which the Winnebago would be), you will need the 1-1/2" diameter sway bar, which is part # RM-1209-131. This will require 4 holes to be drilled in order to mount two of the brackets. I've linked to a video installation...

  • Rear Anti-Sway Bars for a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 RV
Rear anti-sway bar # RM-1209-120 actually replaces the factory bar on your 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 chassis so the stock bar will need to be removed. There is another model, # RM-1209-131, that also fits your Sprinter chassis and it does retain the factory bar. Two bars would theoretically provide even greater stability.

  • Recommended Rear Anti-Sway Bar For 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Motorhome
We do offer rear anti-sway bars for your 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. If you have a 2500 the rear anti-sway I recommend is part # RM-1209-128. Using this bar helps reduce the effects of crosswinds and shifting cargo or passing vehicles. It attaches to the rear axle and chassis and includes the mounting hardware. If your motorhome is a 3500, the rear anti-sway bar you would need is part # RM-1209-120. I have attached a photo that shows how the anti-sway bar is normally attached on a...

  • Rear Anti-Sway Bar for a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter Class C Motor Home
Roadmaster rear anti-sway bar # RM-1209-131 will fit a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter 3500, Class C. And it retains the factory anti-sway bar. Rear anti-sway bar # RM-1209-120 fits both the regular van models and RV cut-away models and replaces the factory anti-sway bar. An RV cut-away is just the van cab part and a different motor home body put on the rest of the chassis. If you happen to have a 2500 model then you would use # RM-1209-128. And if the vehicle did not come with a factory anti-sway...

  • Rear Anti-Sway Bar for a 2011 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 Class C Motor Home
For the 2011 Sprinter you can use Rear Anti-Sway Bar, # RM-1209-120. Mercedes made the Sprinter for several different companies so if is branded as a Mercedes, Dodge, or Frieghtliner if it is a 2011 this bar will fit.

  • Anti-Sway Bars for 2020 Winnebago on MB Sprinter Chassis
I would add the Roadmaster # RM-1209-120 rear anti-sway bar. This 1-3/8" diameter sway bar is very rigid and will keep everything tight. If this does not result in the level of stability you desire, then you can move on to shocks. At some point you start subtracting from comfort-of-ride, so it is best to add, then test, then add again if needed.

  • Suspension Enhancement/Sway Control Recommendation for a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter 3500
For your 2012 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 the best solution I can provide for you that will provide you with anti-sway would be the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway-Control Kit # SSA12MTKT. This will provide you with additional suspension support in the rear and will also greatly help prevent sway. We currently don't offer any sway bars like the part # RM-1209-120 that you referenced that are confirmed to fit your vehicle.

  • 2017 Thor Class B Gemini On Ford Transit 350HD Chassis Anti-Sway Bar and Suspension Enhancement
I do have an option for you but there are not air springs available for the 2017 Thor Class B Gemini on the Ford Transit Chassis. I recommend to use a Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar part # RM-1209-120 to minimize sway. The sway bar attaches to the rear axle and chassis to brace the frame as it shifts to minimize the side-to-side movement you are experiencing. To soften the ride, I recommend SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-121-40 for the rear axle. The SumoSprings are designed...

  • Difference Between the Factory and Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar on a 2019 MCB Sprinter 3500
The Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar part # RM-1209-120 (Cutaway Models) will preform better than the factory rear anti-sway bar on your 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 because it is thicker (1-3/8") which means it will be stronger therefore helping to further decrease side-to-side movement. The Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar also comes with polyurethane bushings which will be more durable as well as less noisy than the rubber bushing you have on the factory rear anti-sway bar. If you really...

  • 2009 Itasca Navion Suspension Enhancement Suggestions
In a Class C motorhome addressing body roll/sway is a common issue. Suspension on the cutaway van chassis that most Class C's are built on is adequate with a van body on the chassis. However, when coach builders place a significantly different body on the chassis that obviously changes the dynamics and many OEM coach builders fail to upgrade/enhance those now less effective suspension components. We have two options available the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar, # RM-1209-120 is a significant...

  • Sway Bar and Steering Stabilizer Recommendation for 2016 Winnebago View Motorhome 24D 3500
For the 2018 Winnebago View 24D class C motorhome built on a 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 chassis we do have confirmed fits for aftermarket rear anti-sway bars but not for the front. For that you'd want the part # RM-1209-120 which is a confirmed fit and would work well. This will greatly help your ride quality. For a set of SumoSprings for the rear we have the part # SSR-336-47-1 which will work well too. SumoSprings are highly recommended in the RV world because of how well they perform.

  • How To Improve the Ride on a 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 Chassis
The SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs like part # SSR-336-47-1 do indeed offer a better ride quality when compared to the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs like part # SSR-338-47 which is what I assume you are referring to. However, the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs will only work for you if you have the standard axle configuration and not the 2" spacer (see photo). If you do have this spacer which most Sprinters do then you will want to consider the Roadmaster Rear...

  • Are New Shocks Required When Adding Anti-Sway Bar and SumoSprings To 2013 Mercedes Sprinter 3500?
As long as the shocks on your 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 are still in good shape, there is no reason to replace them. However if they are worn out you will notice quite a difference once the replacements are installed. We do not sell shock absorbers for vehicles so I do no have a recommendation on which ones to get, though an OEM replacement would be preferred. If you have not already decided on which sway bar and SumoSprings you plan on ordering I recommend the Roadmaster Rear...
