Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

Good product simple instructions easy installation. I’m 71 I installed them in about 3.5 hrs. Tip you need good drill bits, it will make the job easier. Hardest part for me was getting tires off and back on. 2018 Bounder 35P. Would maybe give five stars but haven’t taken the road test yet.

by:

Installed SumoSprings front and back on our 17 36T. They really helped side to side and front to back sway.

by:

Great combined with front and rear sway bars 2014 class A gasser rode like a dream

by:

Sumo springs are an excellent product. I installed them myself and found them easy to install. The difference in stability was night and day. They took most of the sway away and it handles much better on the freeway. We’ve had them on for a year now and they still perform perfectly. I would recommend them to anyone with a gas powered class A. Etrailer was very helpful because it’s important to get the correct Sumo Springs for the weight rating of your coach.

by:

The sumo springs were fairly easy to install and improved the ride quality and stability of our Allegro SA32.I would recommend them to anyone with a gas coach.etrailer and their employees were wonderful to work with.Thank You!

by:

Greatly improved the ride and handling. Worth every penny.

by:

Could not have gotten here any quicker if you would have driven it here yourself.

by:

Huge improvement and love the new ride. We went from being pushed around going down the road to a significant amount of stability. Nice!

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

The SumoSprings have reduced the sway when turning. Also, I am not being pushed sideways when a truck passes or during wind gusts as much as prior to installation. But, I think if I do the front springs I would see even more improvement. So, I have seen improvement but I believe more improvements are possible.

I had an rv dealership install the SumoSprings at a cost of $250. The installation is relatively easy. I wish I had done it myself. But, I’m 76 and not as agile as I used to be.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

Finally completed my SumoSprings with these rear ones for our 2022 Entegra Vision 29s (Ford F53 chassis V8). A while back, I installed the front SumoSprings and it changed our RV from a “white-knuckling, Nordictrack-exercising, stress-induced-heart-stopping” drive to a…comfortable and sure-footed one.
This time around I installed the rear ones and it complimented the drive even more!! We pull a ~5k lbs utility trailer w/off-road UTV’s and we don’t sway or fishtail as much in the rear anymore! We love SumoSprings!! We have them in ALL of our vehicles!! Highly recommend!
I deducted 1 star for eTrailer. I made the mistake of repurchasing the front SumoSprings again instead of the rears, without triple checking what I bought. I cancelled a minute too late to prevent it from being shipped. Unfortunately, it was shipped and they had to issue me a return label for when it arrives. Thus deducting logistics and restocking fee from my purchase refund.
Granted, it was 100% my fault for the wrong purchase but eTrailer could have given a loyal customer a one time pass.

I bought and installed these for
My
2012 f53 motorhome chassis. They make the ride too stiff. Does better side roll. But bounces everything inside going down the road. Maybe the next spring level down would be better?

Comments
In order for me to better assist you, we will need the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Also, please check your rear frame area to make sure it looks flush, like there’s no metal bars or brackets welded on the frame.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

I haven't driven the coach with them yet but installation went surprising smoothly. I removed the rear tires to install, the hardest part of this installation was putting those tires back on. No issues with drilling through frame. There were some brake and fuel lines on the driver side rail so I slid a scrap of 3/4" plywood between the frame and rails just to make sure I didn't drill into something I shouldn't have.

My frame already had lower holes, not sure which video but they show installing one of the lower bolts then jacking up the axle until the 2nd hole aligns. Worked like a charm.

One year ago I installed Sumo Springs front and rear on my class A motorhome. This upgrade is the best suspension add on for improved sway control and overall handling. etrailer helped me make the proper choice based on overall vehicle weight and specific chassis. Fast shipping and fair pricing.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

The installation is more difficult than the installation lead me to think it would be but once installed the sumo springs contributed greatly to dampening the roll of the RV as it went through ruts and over speed bumps etc. I am a little surprised at how compressed they are after I let the vehicle down on them and I'd appreciate knowing if others have this level of compression. I had considered a 2cm lift for this vehicle but held off for now. Pictures attached.
First pic 4616: Shows that on my rig I had to jack the spring and axle down from the frame in order to get the sumo spring in.
Second pic 2816: shows that I was able to put the sumo sprint in the left of the sway bar bracket (which had to be removed). Next I used pry bars to move it to the right into the bracket where it belongs.
Third pic 5748: shows the spring installed and compressed by the vehicles weight.
Fourth pic 2230: Shows the spring partially installed on the left side. Note that the eyelet on the sway bar bracket on this side (sprinter 3500) makes the install much harder and I had to really jack the springs down to get it on this side.
Fifth pic 0054: Left side installed and sway bar reinstalled. Still unloaded

I had these sumosprings installed on my class A motorhome 1yr ago to eliminate role. I have been extremely pleased to experience a 90% reduction in role and a MUCH smoother ride. The motorhome is easier to drive and maneuver single handed, even in the turns.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

I am sure these are very good, the only reason for the low rating is to get attention so no one makes the same mistake like i did.

These DONOT FIT on a 2018 Jayco Greyhawk equipped with the JRide suspension. The Heliwig helper springs are in the way.

etrailer application guide needs to be updated, the picture attached show the Heliwigs are in the way.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

As always, eTrailer service and delivery was flawless for me on these SumoSprings for my 2021 WBGO Adventurer 29B Class A. Installation was done by a local WBGO dealer, who noted that it was easy and relatively quick to accomplish. My reason for getting the SumoSprings was to reduce rear body sway in turns and due to wind buffeting. For this, they seem to work well -- there is noticeably less sway now than before -- which is more confidence-inspiring and takes some of the effort out of dealing with passing trucks or brisk gusts of wind (especially from the side). However, as with any suspension modification that effectively stiffens the suspension, the sway reduction is accompanied by a somewhat harsher ride. This is especially noted when crossing bumps, train tracks, and expansion joints. For me, it's an acceptable compromise, after all, the RV is still a truck and will always ride and handle like one.

Review from a similar SumoSprings Maxim in Vehicle Suspension

The springs them selves are great but I just had to replace all the mounting bolts to frame and straighten the bracket as 7 out of 8 bolts broke, 1 bent and subsequently bent the bracket. I just emailed sumo springs and so far they don't care.
