1995 Jeep Questions and Answers

  • Parts Needed To Flat-Tow 1995 Jeep Wrangler Economically
  • To flat-tow your 1995 Jeep Wrangler, you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle wiring or lights, and a supplemental braking system. The base plate kit I would recommend for your Jeep is the Roadmaster Classic Base Plate Kit, part # 1409-3, which will fit only the U-Channel Bumper, which your Jeep should have. For an economical tow bar, you could use the Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar, part # 63180, if the 45 mile per hour limitation is will work for you. To connect...

  • Circuit Breaker Setup and Wiring for a Superwinch X1 Trailer Winch
  • The correct circuit breakers for the X1 Super Winch, # 1101, would be two of the 50 amp inline circuit breakers, # 87-22873-11. I produced a photo showing how the circuit breakers would be oriented and wired inline from the battery to the winch. I cannot recommend using another brand of circuit breaker for the Superwinch winches, but if you did you would need to stay with the same amperage rating and wiring configuration.

  • 4-Pole Wiring for my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • Yes, you can use the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Converter with 4-Pole End, item number HM48915, to wire your Jeep for a 4-way trailer connection. Keep in mind that this unit will need to be hard wired into the vehicles taillight circuits and that it only supplies 2.1 amps per function so the trailer can only have lights at the rear and no extra lighting. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # 40376, if you need one, to find the correct wiring to splice the connector to. An easier...

  • Base Plate Kit, Tow Bar, Safety Cables, and Light Kit Recommendations for a 1995 Jeep Cherokee
  • We have two base plate kits available for your 1995 Jeep Cherokee. Both base plate kits are only for models that do not have a brushguard. First is the Roadmaster Standard Base Plate Kit, # 1402-1. But if it were my Jeep, I would go with the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, # 1418-1. The XL series brackets attach to the towed vehicle frame and provide attachment points for tow bars. The visible portions of bracket can be removed when not towing. Please note that trimming of spoiler,...

  • Availability of Adapter For Connecting 6-Way Round on Trailer to 4-Way Flat on Tow Vehicle
  • I would recommend to use the Tow Ready 4-Way to 6-Way Adapter, part # 30637. If you only want to use the basic lighting functions provided by the 4-Way (left/right turn, brake, and running lights) then all you will need to do is plug the 4-Way end of the # 30637 adapter, into the vehicle 4-Way. The trailer 6-Way will then plug into the 6-Way receptacle on the adapter. You will also need to ground the white wire on the adapter to the vehicle frame at a clean and corrosion free metal surface....

  • Bearings and Seal for a 3,500 lb Dexter Torflex Axle
  • I took a look at the manual, and the outer bearing for a #10 Torflex Dexter axle would be outer bearing # L44649 and outer race # L44610; inner bearing # L68149 and inner race # L68111; and seal # 58846. That would make bearing kit # BK2-100 the correct choice for your axle and includes each of these parts. For a Bearing Buddy you would want to use # BB1980A. I have included links to video reviews of each of these products for you to take a look at.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness has No Power on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • The black and yellow wires together in their own connector are for power (black wire) and left turn signal (yellow wire). Use a circuit tester such as # ALL640595 to determine if the black wire has power on it when plugged into the factory plug. the vehicle may or may not have to be turned on. If there is no power coming from the vehicle then it is likely a blown fuse or relay in the power distribution box. If there is power on that black wire but no power on the 4-Way wiring coming...

  • Installing Curt Trailer Wiring Harness 55260 on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • When installing Curt trailer wiring harness # C55260 on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, both connectors will install on the passenger side of the vehicle behind the tail light and interior trim panels. Look for the matching connectors that look like the gray and black connectors on the harness. This harness is designed to fit on vehicles that have the factory tow package. If yours does not have the factory tow package the wiring may not be present or active for this wiring harness. If that...

  • Brake Controller Installation on 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee With Factory 7-Way Trailer Connector
  • Sometimes Mopar used a light green wire, sometimes it was a blue wire. The fact that the wire you found has a tag on it positively identifies it as the brake output circuit. I'd recommend the # 5506 Brake Controller Install Kit. I've linked you to a video showing the kit being used to install a different controller on a 2000 Grand Cherokee. The procedure on your vehicle would be very similar. The brake stoplight switch wire you'll need to attach the red brake controller wire to would...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • For your 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee we have the T-One Trailer wiring harness part # 118349 which is a confirmed fit and would install by plugging in line with the taillight harnesses of your vehicle.

  • Grounding T-Connector for 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • The Curt # 55260 T-One wiring kit does not require a separate ground connection, because the ground connection is made in the plug that connects inline with the vehicle wiring harness feeding the passenger side tail light assembly. You can see this by looking at the photo I have edited for you. In other words, you are not missing anything. You can see the installation instructions by clicking the provided link.

  • Tow Bar Wiring to Flat Tow a 1995 Jeep Wrangler Behind a Motor Home
  • Hopkins trailer wiring harness # 42615 does not fit a 1995 Jeep YJ. Also, it is a harness meant for towing a trailer WITH a Jeep rather than to tow the Jeep behind a motor home. I have included a link to the wiring harnesses for flat towing the Jeep. There isn't a plug and play type of harness for this particular vehicle. What I recommend and what our installers like to install because it is the easiest is the bulb and socket kit # RM-155. This bypasses the vehicle wiring so there is...

  • Tow Bar Recommendation for Flat Towing 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ at Highways Speeds with Ford F-150
  • The Tow Ready Adjustable Tow Bar 63180 does have a speed limitation of 45 miles per hour, but this is the only tow bar we offer with a limit on driving speed. A great option for a tow bar that does not have a speed limit and will work well for you is the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520. I recommend the Falcon 2 tow bar because it is a popular tow bar from a high quality manufacturer that is a leader in the flat towing industry. The Falcon 2 is a hitch-mounted tow bar that will...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 1995 Jeep Cherokee
  • Since the Class III Curt hitch part # 13084 for your 1995 Jeep Cherokee is actually less expensive than the Class II hitch for your vehicle I would recommend you go with it. Especially since you'll get better capacities and have more hitch accessories made for it. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes...

  • Will Bestop Sport Bar Cover for Jeep # B8000915 Fit the Family Style Bar on 1995 Jeep Wrangler
  • The Bestop Sport Bar Cover for Jeep, part # B8000915, is designed to fit the factory-original sport bar cover on your 1995 Jeep Wrangler, which is a family style bar. It has a cover assembly with foam padding that will cover the top of the sport bar, the two shorter front legs of the sport bar, and the two longer rear legs of the sport bar. It also has two fabric covered foam tubes that will cover both horizontal support bars that run to the front windshield. I am including a picture...

  • Recommended Base Plate Kit for a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ
  • The Blue Ox Base Plate Adapter Brackets for Smittybuilt XRC Atlas Bumpers # BX88304 that you referenced are custom fit for 2007-2017 Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Jeeps that have the Smittybuilt XRC Atlas bumper. It should not be modified to use with the tube-style bumper on your 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. I have attached a picture with the dimensions that you asked for, but with that being said, it is better that you go with a setup that was designed to be used either with a U-channel...

  • Wiring Blue Ox Patriot 2 BRK2016
  • You can use the excellent Blue Ox Patriot II braking system # BRK2016 in your towed 1995 Jeep YJ but it needs to be powered from the towed car's battery using outlet kit # RM-9332. You also need Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400. You cannot power the Patriot from the motorhome 12V circuit because a loss of the power connection would make the unit inoperable.

  • Upper Door Slider Recommendations for a 1995 Jeep YJ
  • Yes, the Rampage Replacement Top part # RA99615 uses the factory installation hardware and is designed to match OE looks and specs so it would work with the Bestop Upper Door Sliders # B5178537 that you referenced since these are confirmed to fit factory soft tops. For a set of tinted back 3 windows you would want the part # B5812015.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1995 Jeep Cherokee
  • For your 1995 Jeep Cherokee you can use Tekonsha harness # 119178KIT. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • If you don't have a factory hitch or trailer wiring it's safe to say you don't have the towing package and the 4-way kit from Hopkins you'd want would be the part # HM42515. Also it's worth noting that this kit also fits vehicles WITH the tow package to so it's a safe bet for your 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. If your vehicle has a factory hitch and wiring you most likely do have the tow package and the kit part # HM42525 would be what you'd need.

  • Can Factory D-Rings Be Installed Over the Curt Hitch 13567 on a 1995 Jeep Wrangler
  • If you have a set of D-rings that are currently installed where the Curt Hitch part # 13657 would install on your 1995 Jeep Wrangler you could install them over the mounting bracket of the hitch as long as you got the appropriate length Grade 5 or higher bolt to replace the hitch's install bolts.

  • Adding a 6-Pole Trailer Connector in the Bed of a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500
  • Since your 2006 GMC Sierra has a factory 7-way trailer connector at the back of the truck, I recommend using Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness, # 50-97-410. Since this harness has a 7-Way, you would just need an adapter, like # HM47570. The wiring harness is a simple T-connection that installs in line with the wiring already present on the truck so you will not have to cut and splice any wiring or figure out the wiring colors and functions. As far as wire color and...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 1995 Jeep Wrangler for Towing a Boat 2,200 lbs
  • The trailer hitch that I recommend for your 1995 Jeep Wrangler to tow a 2,200 lb boat is the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch, # 13657. This hitch has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. We have installed this hitch on a 1996 Wrangler, so I attached the video for you to check out. The installation is very easy on this model. To complete your towing package, I also recommend picking up a tail light wiring harness. The Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness, #...

  • Is Trimming Required for Installation of a Front Hitch on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Orvis Edition
  • There is no trimming involved when installing the Draw-Tite Front Mount Trailer Hitch, item # 65008, on the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The front hitch will fit on your Orvis edition, but you will need to remove the steel skid shield and/or plastic underbody panel, if they are present on your vehicle, see instructions link.

  • Size Bolt Leader Needed for Curt Class III Hitch # 13084
  • To install the Curt Class III hitch on a 1995 Jeep Cherokee, you'll need a 1/2 inch bolt leader which is actually included in the hardware pack that comes with the hitch. If you needed an extra for some reason, you'd use part # C58400. If you click the provided link, you can see a video showing how to use the bolt leader.

If you do not have the factory tow package, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118349. Like you stated, this will give you a 4-way only. To upgrade to the 7 way, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way...
