Ellen: Hey, everyone! I'm Ellen, here at etrailer.com. And today, we're going to be taking a look at the Buyers Products three-eighths inch by 35 inch Class Four trailer safety chain. Now, if you've ever towed anything, you'll know that you need to have come safety chains just in the event of an accidental disconnect. If something didn't get coupled down all the way, or it didn't get hooked up quite right, and it comes uncoupled while you're out on the road, your safety chains are there as a backup to make sure that your stuff can stay attached while you pull over safely to the side of the road and get everything hooked back up again. So, we want our safety chains to be up to the task. You want to get something that's going to be above and beyond what you're hauling, so that your trailer and everything that you've got loaded on it, you want to make sure that that's below what your safety chains are rated at.Now, these have a rating of 15,000 pounds for just this single setup here. Typically, you'll want to get two of these, one to go on either side, to hook into place. So, that's going to double your weight capacity. more

Draw-Tite Safety Chains and Cables - Safety Chains - 63451 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Draw-Tite towing safety chain. Now this towing safety chain helps ensure safe towing, it provides the backup connection between your trailer and your tow vehicle. Now this one is a 36 inch long safety chain; it comes with one chain so you will need another one. Your trailer needs to have two chains connecting from the trailer to the tow vehicle, under the coupler and it is recommended very strongly that when you run them, you cross the chains under the coupler so that way, if the coupler disengages from the ball mount on the tow vehicle, the chains actually create like a basket, which would then catch the coupler and keep the nose of it from dragging on the ground. So again, this safety chain part number comes with one 36 inch long chain. Towing chains are required by law in most states. more

Today on our trailer we're going to be installing the Fulton Safety Chains with Clevis Hook. These are rated at 18,800 pounds and are 42" long, part number is FCHA0050324. Our installation's going to be really simple, we're just going to remove our existing safety chain here and bring in our new Fulton Chain and using the same hardware it's going to be a nice direct replacement. You can see there's a considerable difference between the old chain and the new chain. This new chain, this is a grade 70 chain so it's going to have a nice strong feel to it, they're 5/16" links. As you can see they got a nice corrosion resistant finish to them because of course they're always going to be outside, that's where our trailers usually live so it would be susceptible to those elements. Also going to have a nice large clevis hook with keeper on them so the time comes we can easily slide up to the back of our truck, hook them up and there will be a nice throat there to fit several different styles of safety chain connection points. more

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 2118-348-04, this is the 48 inch long safety chain from Laclede Chain Accessories and Parts. Now safety chains are going to be required in most states. Very simple explanation; they're simply designed to secure the trailer to the tow vehicle in the event that the trailer coupler comes of of your hitch-ball. One end of the chain is going to connect to the trailer. Now the chain can be bolted to the trailer tongue, or you can connect them using a safety chain loop. If you're trailers not equipped with the safety chain loop we do sell those here on our website, they are going to be sold separately, and that would be welded to the trailer tongue. more

Tow Ready Safety Chain with Quick Links Review- Video

Tow Ready Safety Chain with Quick Links Review

Today on our boat show we're going to install the tow ready safety chains with quick links, part number TR63035. Our safety chains are 72 inches long and have a capacity of 5,000 pounds. Another particular application has had a foldaway jack installed so we're going to need some longer safety chains to get all the way back to the original manufacturer's tongue before the cut for the foldaway. Now, you can see we've got a lot going on in this area. We've got our extra long chains so we can get back here where we can get a good solid hold on the manufacturer's frame. We're going to go up about an inch from the bottom of the frame, make a pilot hole and then enlarge it enough to get a half inch bolt that will go through the frame and get secured on the inside with a flange nut. I'm also going add a washer here on the outside to uphold the chain. more
