It's going to be one of five main components for the flat tow setup on the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The other four are going to be your base plate, which is going to mount to the chassis of the vehicle to give you a solid connection point or a solid mounting location for your tow bar. You have your tow bar. Your tow bar is going to give you that solid connection point between your base plate and your motorhome. more

Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - Stop Light Switch - RM-751496

Today we'll be taking a look at the Roadmaster stoplight switch kit. This is an important component in your vehicle to make sure that everything's working properly with your supplemental braking system. Since this is going to provide you that brake switch signal so that it can be sent to your monitor in your RV, while you're using that supplemental braking system, that'll let you know whenever those brakes are being depressed, so you can keep an eye on your system. A lot of times vehicles will shut off the power to their brakes if they don't have that hot brake signal anymore, or the power is not supplied because we have to use a better disconnect.Whatever the case may be, this will get us that signal that we need, so we can monitor it again in the RV. Typically, the reason why you'd want to do that is just to make sure that the brakes are being applied as you're applying the brakes in your RV. And if any event that something's going wrong, and you notice those brakes are being applied all the time in your towed vehicle, this is going to send that signal to your monitor to let you know. more

Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com and today you're going to be taking a look at the Air Force One supplemental braking system on our 2019 Canyon. Now whenever we're flat towing our Canyon, it's important to have a supplemental braking system so that it can slow itself down and stop itself, rather than relying on our motor home to do all the braking and put a lot of strain and stress on it. But also keep in mind that a supplemental braking system is only going to be one of five main components that you need for a safe, secure flat tow set up.First, we're going to need to a base plate and this is going to mount directly to the frame of our Canyon. So we have a secure connection point for our tow bar. Now our tow bar is going to be the next component and that's going to connect our base plate to the motor home. Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - BrakeMaster for Hydraulic Brakes - RM-9060

Today we'll be taking a look at the Roadmaster BrakeMaster supplemental braking system for RVs with hydraulic brakes. Now this is going to be a system to help you stay compliant with state and federal laws to flat tow your vehicle. This is going to apply the braking force in our towed vehicle to make sure that it comes to a safe and complete stop. So it's going to work similarly to a brake controller in a vehicle like if you have a truck and you're towing a trailer or a fifth wheel camper or something similar to that. That brake controller is going to apply the brakes in your trailer or your camper to help bring it to stop so your towing vehicle isn't doing all the work.Same thing with the supplemental braking system. We're going to make sure that our RV isn't having to stop both itself and that towed vehicle. more

Review of Roadmaster Trailer Brake Controller Systems - Stop Light Switch - RM-751493- Video

Review of Roadmaster Trailer Brake Controller Systems - Stop Light Switch - RM-751493

Today we'll be taking a look at the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit. Typically, a stop light switch kit is going to go in your towed vehicle, if your flat-towing, and it's going to give you that lighting function for the brakes on your towed vehicle. But in this case, this is a custom fit for our Freightliner and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, for the years 2010 to 2019. And that's for the 2500 and the 3500.This is going to actually allow you to use a brake controller for your Sprinter. There's no real good way to get a brake signal under the dash, like you typically would need for that brake controller, to get it wired up properly. So this going to be a solution, so you can use that brake controller, and have those braking functions going out to a trailer, and slowing that down. The way that works is it will have this custom-made bracket that goes underneath our dash, and then this switch is going to have a little plunger. more

Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - Stop Light Switch - RM-751494

Today we'll be taking a look at the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit.This is going to allow your vehicle to use a supplemental braking system that requires a monitor in the RV. If your vehicle, when it's in tow mode, doesn't have a brake signal, if there's no live brake signal there whenever it's in tow mode, or it's only there for a little while after the ignition is turned off, you'll need that brake . or that stop light switch to make sure that the monitor can still read your brakes being applied.Basically, this is just going to be sort of a mechanical device. This little plunger is going to be pressed up against the brake pedal arm, and that will sense whenever that brake pedal is being depressed, and whenever it lights up. So, that will send that signal to our monitor on our RV, and that allows us to monitor how our brakes are operating in our towed vehicle when we're going down the road. This bracket is going to be a custom fit for the 2019 Buick Envision turbo model. It comes with our two wires to get the connections off of our switch here. more

Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Sonic- Video

Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Sonic

Whenever we go to flat tow our Sonic, there are going to be several components that we need. One of them is going to be a braking system, so that whenever we press the brakes on our motor home, our Sonic will slow down with it and we're not relying on the motor home to slow everything down. Now, most braking systems are going to have a monitor light in there, so we can monitor what's going on and when the brakes are applied in our Sonic without having to leave the motor home. Now, the problem with that is, is that most monitor lights are going to go off of the brake cylinder and the actuator that's actually causing the brake pedal to move, but if something we're to fall on the brakes or that cylinder doesn't move back all the way, or if it's not installed properly, we're not going to get an accurate reading. That's where our stop light switch is going to come in and help us out. Our stop light switch is actually going to give us an accurate reading of when the pedal moves rather than when the actuator moves. Our stop light switch is going to mount directly to the brake pedal arm. It's going to have a small plunger in there, and whenever the brake pedal moves, it's going to energize that circuit and send that signal out. more

This Stealth will install out of the way, remains virtually invisible when your car's not being towed, and the control unit right here'll double as your trailer brake controller. This supplemental braking system applies your tow vehicle's brakes in proportion to braking action of your RV. It'll respond to deceleration of the RV to activate your tow car's brake pedal with matching intensity. The sensitivity control's let you adjust the rate of responsiveness of your internal sensor. Low sensitivity requires intense stopping action from the RV to activate your brakes in the tow car, and high sensitivity will allow the Stealth to respond to even minimal slowing of your RV.It is a one-time setup. more

To help us with our installation, we're gonna be using the Buyers Dual Fuse Holder for ATM micro fuses.Whenever you're flat towing your Jeep, you wanna know what's going on behind you. Well, that's why our supplemental braking systems have monitor life and they let us know what's going on, but those are usually read off of the cylinder pushing on the brake pedal. It doesn't exactly tell you where the brake pedal is positioned. So if it's not installed correctly, the brace could be applied all the time causing a lot of damage down the line. But by using this Roadmaster Stop Light Switch, we're gonna be able to see where our brake pedal's actually positioned, rather than the braking system position. That way we know exactly if our brakes are being applied, if something may have fell on the brake pedal while we're towing our Jeep, or any case we know exactly what's going on.Our Stop Light Switch is gonna mount right onto our brake arm and it's gonna have a little plunger that's gonna activate or deactivate depending on how hard we push on our brake pedal. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2010 Jeep Commander- Video

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2010 Jeep Commander

Today on our 2010 Jeep Commander, we're gonna be taking a look at SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes as part of our flat tow setup. The Air Force One is gonna be a semipermanent installation. What's nice about it is once you install it, it's maintenance free and you don't have to make any adjustments. Another thing that's nice about it is if you buy a new vehicle, you can transfer this over to that new vehicle with the second vehicle kit. Here at the front of our vehicle we have our breakaway switch, and we have our air fitting. Our breakaway switch is attached to the back of our RV. In the unlikely event that our Jeep is disconnected from our motor home, this pin is pulled, applying the brakes in the Jeep bringing it to a stop. With our air fitting, this is also connected to the back of the RV; this is where our braking system gets the air pressure to apply the brakes while we're flat towing the Jeep. Here we have our actuator mounted on our brake pedal arm. more

Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - Stop Light Switch - RM-751477- Video

Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - Stop Light Switch - RM-751477

Today, we're gonna take a look at the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit for Ford Explorer. And this is going to be a custom-fit bracket for your Ford Explorer. This is gonna fit a 2016 to 2019 Explorer without adjustable brake pedals, and basically, one end is going to mount to a factory stud on your vehicle, beside the brake pedal itself, and then the bracket is gonna go up and around to the front so that you can mount your brake light switch to the bracket and have it depress that plunger.Basically, the idea of this system is that it's going to allow us to monitor our braking while we're in our RV, and towing our Ford Explorer. This is just going to activate our wiring, so that we can have a alert in our RV so we'll know every time our brake is being applied in the towed vehicle. This is gonna be helpful, since we'll be able to know if we're not hitting the brakes in our RV, and we see our light indicate that our brakes are being applied in our towed vehicle, that something has gone wrong.Either something is hitting the brakes in our towed vehicle, or something is not aligned properly with our braking system. This is gonna give us that secondary way to know that everything is working properly. We'll have two lengths of wire. One is gonna be our power wire for the stop light switch. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Colorado

We will also be using Roadmaster's EZ5 baseplate kit, Roadmaster's universal high power diode wiring kit, Roadmaster's battery disconnect kit, and Roadmaster's Nighthawk all-terrain non-binding tow bars. This supplemental braking system is going to give you truly proportional braking on your towed vehicle using the air supply from your motor home. The air umbilical cord connected between your motor home and your vehicle's going to provide that air to the units installed on the vehicle that will activate the cylinder applying the brake pedal. You'll have a safety breakaway switch as well in case of a catastrophic disconnect. This will pull the pin, applying the brakes on your vehicle to help it come to a safe stop.As you can see here, when I pull the pin it's going to apply the brake pedal. When you're normally driving the vehicle, pressing the brakes in your motor home, it's going to apply the brakes here on your vehicle to help it stop along with your motor home. more
