Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2002 Ford F-150

Today on our 2002 Ford F-150, we'll be installing the Tekonsha P3 Proportional Brake Controller with Ford Adapter, part number 90195-3035P. Now, to begin with, there's a couple different ways we can mount our brake controller. We chose to use the small metal bracket and the plastic clips that allow you to remove the brake controller easily, if you so choose. First, we're going to go ahead and run our wires underneath the dash a little bit and make sure that we can get it to come out where we want to. As you can see here, we're able to pull the wires out, to allow just enough room to mount our brake controller and hide most of the wires up behind the dash. Now that we've got our wire fished in place, now we'll go ahead and mount our bracket for our brake controller. Now, to mount our bracket, we'll be using a total of four self-tapping screws: two that'll mount the small metal bracket to the dash, and two that'll attach the metal bracket to the plastic housing that holds the brake controller in. Now that we have the metal bracket attached to the dash, we'll go ahead and put the other two screws to attach the plastic section to the metal bracket. Once that's done, we'll go ahead and plug the plug into the back of the brake controller. The wiring connection is a four flat that has a simple locking tab on top, so you simply slide it in to the back of the brake controller, making sure that the locking tab is fully engaged. With that done, we'll go head and slide the brake controller into the plastic holder, making sure that all the tabs lock into place, securing the brake controller to it. more
