Dexter 3500-lb Axle Trailer Hub Installation- Video
Today, we're going to be taking a look at and installing Dexter's Replacement Hubs for 3,500-lb axles with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. These ones are galvanized, so they're designed more for your marine and snowmobile applications. We're going to be putting them on a boat trailer here. That's a perfect application for it, since you often have to back that boat down into the dock and it's going to get wet.What's cool about this hub is it does come with races included, and the races that come included with it are pre-installed, which is nice because they're a press fit. So, it's nice they got that out of the way. That's a part where you definitely could cause a mistake when driving the race in and score up the surface, and you don't want to do any of that. more

One of the things you'll notice about the idler hub is that there's no braking components on it. That's why it's called an idler. This is just a place for you to install your wheel onto, so that way when you're hauling your trailer it can rotate on the spindle here and give you additional load-carrying capacity on your trailer because you've got another axle there supporting the weight. Now, if you're wondering what type of idler hubs you need, the easiest way to do this is it's going to be to crawl under the trailer and look on the center line of the actual beam, on here is going to have a sticker with the manufacturer serial number and usually the weight capacity as well. The weight capacity is usually going to be the best guide to help us selecting our idler hub. However, we can always contact the manufacturer with the serial number to get specific such as bearing information in grease seals. So if you're wondering why you would be installing idler hubs on such a large 5,200 pound axle, it's because chances are you're either looking to swap from hydraulic drum brakes or electric drum brakes to hydraulic disc brakes, which you can see we have the disc brake mounting flange here.Keep in mind the rest of the components for a disc breaking assembly are going to be sold separately here through etrailer. more

This is going to be an idler hub for your axle face, so it replaces any kind of worn out component that you might already have, it gives you a new axle face to attach your wheel to the axle.So it's going to be an e-coating there to resist any kind of rust and corrosion. As far as the application this will work for, it works for trailers with a 2100 pound axle capacity or 2,100 pounds. The bolt pattern is going to be five on four and a half, so if we go from one of those bolts to the exact opposite side, that's going to measure four and a half inches. That gives us five on four and a half and then this is going to have a half inch bolt design with a weight capacity of a thousand pounds.All the bearings, races and seals, those are going to be sold separately. more

Today we're going to be taking a look at a five on five 3,500 pound hub from Dexter.Now this is going to have half inch wheel studs, and the thing I like about it, it comes pre-greased, so packing bearings and all that, we really don't have to mess with. Basically with a good number 84 spindle, we're able to remove the old hub assembly and repair any damage. Maybe some of the wheel studs have been damaged, lug nuts, whatever the case might be, we're able to remove that old one, put a brand new assembly on, use our original nut, washer, and keeper from our axle. But outside of that, everything is going to be new and fresh and something we really won't have to worry about for quite a while.Now in the package you're going to have a EZ Lube spindle cap, just like this, and the standard spindle cap. more

CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly w/ Carrying Case for 2,700-lb Axles Spec Review- Video
Today, we're going to take a look at the CE smith pre-greased trailer hub assembly, and this hard carrying case for 2,700 pound axles, but the five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. Now this is how you would receive it, comes in this nice hard plastic carrying case with the handle, keeps all your parts all in one place. And then when you open it up, you'll see your hub assembly is all in one bag and pre-greased. And then your other bag has the grease cap, lug nuts and cotter pin all in a separate bag. Now zinc plating on these lug nuts, the cotter pin and grease cap helps limit corrosion. Now this kit will replace one hub assembly on your trailer. more

Review of the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 12,000-lb Axles- Video
Today, we're going to take a look at the Dexter Oil Bath Trailer Hub Assembly for 12,000-pound axles. Has an eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern. Now, this hub will fit the 12,000-pound high or low-profile Dexter axles. This is an oil bath design, so it does let you check the lubricant level without disassembling the hub. Basically when your oil cap is installed, you can see it's a clear cap and you can look through there to check lubrication. If you do oil you can just pop out that center plug here and put your oil in. more
