How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2007 Honda Odyssey

Today on this 2007 Honda Odyssey we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118438. We are in the rear cargo area of the Odyssey and we want to locate the port that we are going to plug our wiring harness into. The port is actually located inside of the vehicle directly behind the passenger side interior panel. To gain access to that we are going to have to remove a few of these interior pieces. We first need to remove the middle threshold section. We first want to remove the threaded tie down hooks at the rear threshold piece. With those removed we just want to take and gently pry it up from the bottom and what we are attempting to do is release the clips that are not only on the rear section but at the bottom as well. You may find that with it removed that some of the fasteners stayed inside of the vehicle. You do want to remove these and put them back on the threshold piece for reion after we are done. 00:47

Then we need to pop back the interior panel on the passenger side. We also need to remove the tie down point off of this panel as well. Again we are going to release the clips that are holding the interior panel at the rear edge. What I am using is a basic panel removal tool. With the panel pulled back and you look towards the bottom you can see we have got an electrical junction box that has got multiple plugs plugged into it. We are going to be taking our wiring harness and plugging it in to the port that is open at the upper right hand corner. Next we are going to take our harness and plug it in. Next we want to take the white wire that has got a ring terminal on it which is our ground wire. We are going to mount it to our factory ground stud located right next to the electrical junction box. Next we are going to take the modulite box and adhere it to the interior of the vehicle. Somewhere in this area back in here you want to thoroughly clean that area off with a light solvent before attempting to adhere the box to it. 01:53

From there we are going to take the 4-pole end of our harness. We are going to feed it across the rear threshold section to its final storage position which is going to be inside the jack storage department on the driver side. We will take the 4-pole and feed it under the driver side interior panel and inside the jack storage department. That is going to be its final storage location. When you want to use the 4-pole harness you just remove it out of the jack storage department. You will pull it out the rear cargo door of the Odyssey and attach it to your trailer. From there we just want to install the interior that we removed earlier. We will go up to the front of the vehicle where we will put our final fuse in to position. We are up inside the front of the vehicle and I am at the floor board of the passenger side seat. We have got our factory fuse block located right here. We need to put a fuse in line to fully activate our wiring harness at the rear. You want to remove the cover and if you look in the back we are looking for fuse position number five. We are going to be taking our 7-1/ 2 amp fuse that is provided with our wiring harness kit and plugging it into that location. Next we want to take the small label that is provided with our kit, the small sticker we are going to place right over the open spot at the number five terminal and that is going to let us know that that fuse is now active and in use for our tow package. From there we just want to put the cover back on and our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118438 on a 2007 Honda Odyssey.
