How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country

Today on this 2007 Chrysler Town and Country we are going to install part number 118300 from Tow Ready. First open up the back hatch of the vehicle and disconnect the tail lights. To take off the tail lights what we need to do is pull out these two plastic rivets right here. Swing it out and it pops right out. To disconnect the wire harness we have to push in this red tab right here so it unlocks. Push down at the top of the wire harness and it should come right apart. Repeat the same process on the passenger side. Next we are going to pull out this grommet right here and we are going to make a slit in it so we can run our new harness back through here. We are going to leave it like that for now. Repeat the same thing on the other side. 00:47

Next open up the jack storage compartment. Take out the jack tools for now. What is going to happen is from the outside we are going to pull the 4-pole wiring harness back into the jack storage compartment. That is where it will stay when it is not being used. We are going to take the 4-pole of the T-One connector and push it to the inside. There is some insulation inside here that you may have to move around to get to it. Generally if you push most of the wiring harness in there you can get a hold of it somehow if you pull the rest through. We are going to pull all of this through until we get to the T-One connector with the yellow wire and we will stop before we pull it inside the vehicle. However, we still need to pull our T-One connector with the white and green wire all the way through and then we are going to run it across to the other side. We are going to leave all of that alone for now and we are going to go back to the tail light. 01:35

This is our factory wire harness from the vehicle and we are going to add on our T-One connector, it will snap into place, push the red lock pin in, and take this half and put it inside the vehicle. Then we are going to put our grommet along the white wires and put everything back. At this point we can reinstall the driver side tail light. Now we have got our T-One connector with the green and white wire and we are going to run it underneath the plastic all the way across. I am going to take this carpet loose too because we are going to sneak the wire underneath the carpet. We are going to sneak it underneath the plastic here and we will work our way across. Pull this panel apart on the passenger side and run our wires in. Right here behind this blower assembly there is more insulation right here and we will put a fish wire from the outside in and pull it through and use that wire to pull our T-One connector back out. The same thing is going to apply as on the driver side. We will connect the wire harness from the vehicle to our T-One connector and put everything to the inside. Make sure you leave the ground screw hanging out and we will reinstall the grommet. All we have to do for our ground screw is attach it straight to the sheet metal right here. Then put the tail light back together. Reinstall the interior panels. Tuck away any loose wires you have. Right now I am going to take the wire and wrap some electrical tape around it to help keep it contained a little bit. We will reinstall the jack tools now. Take the wiring harness and store it inside there when it is not being used. To use the harness just get into your jack storage compartment and pull it out, however much you need. You can then shut the door on it, just be sure you stay away from the center latch and it should be fine. If you need to you can still pull out extra. That finishes our install of part number 118300 from Tow Ready.

Right here behind this blower assembly there is more instillation in here, what we will do is go ahead and put a fish wire from the outside, in, and pull it through and we will use the wire to pull out T-Connector back out. Same thing is going to apply like on the drivers side. We will connect our wire harness from the vehicle to our T-Connector and put everything inside. Just make sure we leave our ground screw hanging out, and we will go ahead and reinstall the grommet. We will attach our ground wire straight to the sheet metal here. Then put the tail light back together. Next, reinstall the interior panels here and tuck away any loose wires that are hanging out. Now, we are going to take the wire and wrap some electrical tape around it to help keep it contained a little bit. We will reinstall the jack tools now and take our wire harness and store it inside here when it is not being used. 3:47

To use the harness, again open your jack storage compartment and pull it out. Pull out what you need and then shut the door on it, just be sure you stay away from the center latch here and you should be fine. If you need to you can pull out extra still. That finishes our install of part number 118300 from Tow Ready.
