How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Today we are going to install part number 118130 and we are going to install this on our 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Now, this Silhouette actually comes with a load leveling compressor back here. When we have that option you always have a little bit of tow package option which is taped up right here. This port only is available on the vehicles with the compressor. And what we can do is tap off of this. First, we will untape it from the harness. It has a very short lead so it is kind of hard to work with. But, if you take your time, you can actually get a lot out of it. There are two different ways of doing it. One, you can go ahead and tap off the sides of the wires themselves with some scotch lock and tap off of it. Or two, you can simply cut off the port here and just wire it direct. A third option is, you can actually go to the dealer and buy the harness that plugs into this. However, it is just an extension with no converter of anything like that, so you still have to add a converter box and 4 pole on top of it.

So you may want to go ahead and forgo that expense and then just tap directly into the wire harness. And one nice part about this tow package is you will be almost wiring it almost color to color green to green, yellow to yellow, brown to brown. Black will be your ground wire actually and then the white wire will be the stop lamp switch. So pull the rest of this tap, try to free it up to get a little bit more wire out of it. Now that we got that freed up, we have a little bit better working room here. We will make our first connection to the green wire. And it is tight work, but be patient and it will work out. Alright, now we will do our left turn signal, which will be yellow. And we will do our running light, which will be brown to brown. OK, and we will hook up a red wire and that will go to the white wire here. The white wire on this tow harness is the brake lead. OK, and then our ground we will just go ahead attach this straight to the frame.

OK, and then we will just cover up our connections with electrical tape to protect it all. It is a tight fit so you will need patience. Alright and then we will take our converter and we will mount that to the bottom of the frame. And we will attach it with a screw to the frame. And you can mount this anywhere you want. Alright, we will run our wires safely out of the way and zip tie them back to the harness, and then we will take our 4 pole wire and run it out along side the hitch to the receiver. Now we will just take our wire harness and we will just bundle it up on top of the hitch and we will simply just zip tie it into place. Just do it in a couple of places to keep it from going anywhere. And then, just cut off your excess and that covers our install of part number 118130 from Tow Ready, on our 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette with the load leveling package.
