How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2001 Toyota RAV4

Today we are going to install part number 33465 from Hoppy, and we are going to install it on a 2001 Toyota RAV4. All right, to begin with we need to get inside the vehicle and we need to take off the plastic panels on the inside. I am going to take up this carpet and this panel also. We will just push that back for now. And this trim panel, it comes off also. And the next thing we need to do is take off this panel here. We need to loosen it so we can get behind the tail light assembly. We will take off this screw here, and then we will undo this screw here to take off this buckle so that gives you easier work room to pull off the plastic. Also, behind this panel there might be a screw that you might need to take out too. We will take off this panel here for a little bit extra room, too.

On the passenger side you pull away the plastic, just like you did on the drivers side. Again, this is essentially the same. However, we also pulled off this panel here because we are going to need access to that to run our wires through. And again, the same thing applies. The connection point is back up here behind this panel. First we will run this through. And also the reason we have this open is so we can help pull it through, and also we will be using it when it is permanently installed and you will be pulling this wire out to use it by the hitch. For now, we will just leave it like that, and then we will go ahead and run this wire back up through here. Again, we have disconnected our wire harness here. It comes apart. Push the T-connector back into place, and then you can start reassembling your panels. And also make sure you have your carpet put back, too. What we can do with the yellow wire is simply just go ahead and tuck it underneath the carpet here, as best we can. Then we will put our plastic trim piece right back over it.

Next we will go over how you use a T-1 harness. It is pretty simple. Again, when you are not using it, it actually gets hidden up here and it stays out of the way when you are not using it. When you do need to use it, just pull it loose, pull the cable out - the box can stay in there, it will be just fine. And you can put your lid back on, pull it out and pull it across the threshold here. And you can see it goes over the rubber weatherstripping here, and it easily comes out by your hitch. And you can shut the door on it, it is not going to hurt a thing. And with the door shut you can see you can actually pull out as you need to meet your trailer. All right, that covers our install of part number 33465 from Hoppy on an 2001 Toyota RAV4.
