How to Install a Wiring Harness for a Trailer on a 2000 Honda Odyssey

Today on this 2000 Honda Odyssey, we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118336. We are inside the rear cargo area of the Odyssey. We want to go ahead and locate the port that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. The harness is located on the inside of the vehicle, behind the interior panel on the driver side, basically right behind the taillight assembly. So to gain access to it, we are going to need to remove a few pieces. We need to remove the rear threshold piece here at the bottom. We have two tie-down points that need to be removed first. Those are held in with Philips head screws. And with the tie-down points removed, we can just pull up on the rear threshold piece and just release the locking tabs that are on the top side here. 0:40

OK, with that removed we can go over to the interior panel on the driver side. And again we need to remove a tie-down point here. And what we want to do is we need to release the clips that are on the inboard side here in the interior panel. And what I am using is an interior panel remover to get in behind the panel there. If you do not have one of these tools, you can just use a flat headed screwdriver. They work just the same. There is another retaining clip here at the bottom. And it may help to remove the storage compartment door here. And there is actually a Philips head screw that is holding the panel on. And with the panel pulled back, if you look up here towards the top side, you can see our open ended port that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. It is wrapped here in the blue tap. You want to cut the tap back and we will go ahead and plug our harness in line. 1:30

Then we just want to take the converter box portion of the wiring harness here. You can see on the back side of it that it has some double sided tape. We want to go ahead and adhere that to the interior of the wall of the vehicle. With the converter box adhered, we can just go ahead and start reinstalling the paneling. You see now with the interior reinstalled that we have our 4-pole harness pulled out below the interior panel. And the harness is actually going to stay stored inside the vehicle when not in use. When we are looking to use it, we just want to go ahead and open up the cargo door and pull the harness out where we are going to make our connection to the trailer. And you can close the cargo door back down. You do not have to worry about the harness being pinched. The weatherstripping here will prevent that from happening. And with that, that will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118336 on a 2000 Honda Odyssey.
