How to Install a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2000 Buick Century

Today on this 2000 Buick Century we are going to install part number 18252. To wire the vehicle up we are going to have to get to the back of the tail lights and the wire harness is ran up behind here and into the tail light. We are going to have to go to both sides of the vehicle and right now we are looking at the driver side. What we are going to do is take off the fasteners that hold this cover in place so you can get back to the wires. You can see the wires that go in the tail lights will be pretty easy. We will peel back the electric tape so we can get access to the wires. We have got the wires bare, now we will test which wire does what function. First we will start of with the running lights. The kit comes with a supplied light tester so that looks like the running light circuit so that is going to be brown so we will hook up our wire to the 4-pole and the running light on the 4-pole will be brown also. Slide on the scotch lock that comes with the kit and run the brown wire next to it and we will squeeze it with the pliers and we are good to go. 01:04

Now we will look for the left turn signal and that will be our left turn so we will hook up the yellow wire to the green wire. Next we will work on the ground and that will be the white wire and we are going to use a ring terminal to attach to that and just attach to the sheet metal right here. Next we will peel back the green wire and we are going to run that over to the passenger side of the vehicle and make the same connections again. Turn on the right turn signal and check the green wire again and see if that is the same on both sides. It looks like that is the right turn signal and we will make our connection there too. To use the harness with the trailer just pull out a little bit of it and just stay away from the latch and just shut your trunk on it. Then you can pull out what you need down to your trailer. When you are not using it just keep it inside the trunk. There you have it for part number 18252.
