Review of the Yakima Trunk Bike Racks on a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox


Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Yakima full back two-bike trunk mount rack, Part Number Y02634.Now, we already have a bike installed. Let's take a closer look and show off some of the features.Now, we're going to have on each end of the arm an integrated cable lock that can come and wrap around your second bike and latch onto that notch right there, and then you can use your set of keys that comes with the bike rack to insert it there and unlock it. On the other arm, you're going to have a bottle opener that Yakima likes to put on all of their products.Our bike has three different points where it's secured to our bike rack. We have two zip strips on the top of our bike frame. Then we have a zip strip right here securing it into the anti-rattle cradle. Once that's secured, this can prevent the bike from shaking too much while we're traveling.

It's going to help prevent any bike-to-vehicle contact or bike-to-bike contact if you have two installed.If we take a look up front, we're going to see that our front wheel can kind of just turn however it pleases or however gravity wants it to. It doesn't come close to making contact with our vehicle. However, if this is something that bothers you, you can use one of the included straps to secure that front wheel to the frame of the bike. However, we'll just leave it there for now.Now let's go ahead and remove the bike. You've just got to remove your zip strips.

There's two tabs on either side you push in, and you can pull up the zip stripe. Then you can remove the bike.Once you're done, it's always a good idea to go ahead and replace those zip strips so that you can keep track of them, and more importantly so you don't lose them, if you're traveling and maybe they fall off.Now I'm going to provide you guys with a measurement. This measurement's going to let you know how much length you're adding onto the back of your vehicle. From the bumper to the outermost part of our bike rack is going to be about 23 inches added onto the back of our vehicle. Now, there is a way you can cut down on that space.

We have two gray knobs up here that unlock these arms to be able to fold down. All we do is twist it up, and the arm folds down. Once it's where we want it, we just lock it back in place. We'll do the other arm now. As you can see, now it's more compact.

If we measure again, from the bumper to the outermost part, it's going to be about 4 inches added onto the back of your vehicle. You want to keep this in mind for any close quarter situations you might have, such as parking or even storage.We have four different points where our bike rack is connected to our trunk. We have two hooks at the top of our hatch that hook right under the top. We have two more hooks below, near the base of the bike rack. All four hooks are going to be rubber coated, so it's going to help protect your vehicle from any type of scratches or abrasions, and they also are labeled to the correct position where they need to go. For instance, this one is labeled bottom along with the other one, and the top two will be labeled top.Up here, we're going to have two thick foam pads that wrap around the steel frame of the bike rack. That helps protect your windshield from any damage caused by the steel frame of the bike rack.Right here, we're going to have our hub setting. What that means is that once you check whatever hub setting you specifically need this on for your vehicle, you just have to twist that up and adjust this arm to whatever setting is specified. The last thing I want to point out is that it's not recommended to open up your hatch while you have this installed.Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's show you have it performs on our test course fully loaded.First we'll take it onto our slalom course. This will show you the side-to-side action, such as making turns or evasive maneuvers. Now we're at the alternating speed bumps. This will show you how it looks driving on uneven pavement or potholes. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps, which simulates going into your driveway or parking lots.
