Review of the Yakima Ski and Snowboard Racks on a 2021 Toyota 4Runner

Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima FatCat EVO 4 ski and snowboard carrier here on our 2021 Toyota 4Runner. Now this style of ski and snowboard carrier is gonna have it up on your roof in these clamps right here, they are heavily patted with this nice cushioning rubber on the top and the bottom, that is going to keep them nice and tight by gripping them. But then also it's going to serve as really protective padding. So we don't have to worry about damaging any of our gear.

These nice wide jaws are gonna get a good hold on everything and keep it really still in there. I can shake the whole vehicle back and forth just by the skis here. The other nice thing is that you've got these really large buttons. So if you've got gloves on, it's easy to get your hands in there and push them up. And then the arms there are spring loaded.

So they stay open. You don't have to worry about holding them with one hand while you get your gear down with the other. You can just fully focus on getting your gear down. Now, one thing you will notice is that it is a longer carrier and with the 4Runner being so high up, it is a bit hard for me to reach into those back spots. So we're probably going to have to step on the tire or get up into the door jam here, which isn't the most ideal with large booths on, but it's the price you pay for having something up on your roof.

It's just what you're gonna have to deal with. Now, this one is also really nice because it can hold four pairs of skis or two boards. There's plenty of room to work with in here and we've got locks on the end. So all of our gear can be locked up when we're not around. This is a fairly low profile system.

It doesn't add too much height to the top of our roof bars. Now, every roof rack's gonna be a bit different. So go to the top of your crossbar, measure up 4 1/2 inches, and that's how much height that this is gonna add to your vehicle. The nice thing about this as opposed to a box is that these are so much smaller. A lot of people like to carry their skis and snowboards in a rooftop box but those are a lot more expensive and a lot bulkier. So having that extra height on your roof or storing it in your garage whenever you're not using it, that can become much more of a hassle. Overall, I think this one's going to work really well for you. It's gonna hold your gear nice and tight and sit up on the roof really securely. Thanks for watching..
