Review of the Yakima Ski and Snowboard Racks on a 2021 Toyota 4Runner

Hi, everyone. Aidan here with etrailer.com, and today we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima, Fresh Track's ski and snowboard carrier here on our 2021 Toyota 4runner. Now this is going to be a method of carrying your gear within these clamps, rather than what some people might do as a roof box. This is gonna be really nice because it's a lot more cost effective than a roof box, and it's going be easier to store because these are just much smaller overall. You still get a really good hold on your skis and your snowboards. You can see I'm shaking the whole car back and forth by the skis right there, because they're being held in by these very thick, rubber clamps.

So these are, one, going to give you really good grip on your gear, keep it from sliding around. But two, it's going to be really protective, because there's a lot of give in here. It's not gonna pinch or damage anything with harsh plastics or metals. So, that part's really gonna take care of your gear, and you can see here that these spring loaded arms will ratchet down so you can get them really tight, nice and secure for a variety of different size gear. Now, you do have a capacity of two snowboards or four pairs of skis.

You can see we've got one pair of skis in there right now. I can actually go ahead and take those out. Now, this is one thing you will notice is that it can be a bit harder to load all the way into the very back of the carrier here, specifically with the 4runner. The 4runner obviously is a taller vehicle, and while we do have the carrier brought forward to the very end of our crossbars here, that backside is still pretty hard for me to reach. So, more than likely, you'll have to maybe step up on your tire or into the door here.

With big bulky boots, that's not the nicest thing in the world, so just keep that in mind. Now, with these very large buttons, you can see we do have lock cores on there, so we can lock our skis and snowboards inside of those clamps, keeping them nice and secure. Right here we can also see the method of attachment. We're going to have these hand knobs. So, these hand knobs are what will tighten up these clamps.

It's a really easy method of attachment. I like that it's tool-free, so I can just do it by hand. It's a lot quicker and easy to do. Now, as far as some measurements go, it is sticking up a little bit high from the roof rack. Now all roof rack's going to be a bit different. So, depending on the one you have, just go to the top of your crossbar, measure up five and a half inches, and that's how tall this will sit on your vehicle. Overall, that's not too bad. I don't think you'll have to worry too much about any sort of garages or tight parking spots, tight parking garages, rather, but just keep that in mind. Remember it's up there. You don't wanna run into something just because you have that added height. Now, overall, I think this is going to do a really good job. It's holding the skis and the snowboards really well, and you've got a nice big button, lots of space inside, and it's really easy to take on or take off when you want to use it. Thanks for watching..
