Review of the Yakima RidgeBack Hitch Bike Racks on a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Adam: Hi everyone. Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakima Ridgeback Bike Rack on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. This is going to allow you to transport up to two bikes with three different tie down points per bike. We're going to have two here up top and one here down at the bottom. This is going to be your anti-sway cradle.

What that's going to do, it's going to limit that bike to bike contact when you're going down the road. It's fairly simple to get this bike off the rack and I'm going to show you how to do that right now. All you've got to do is press in these pressure pins and you can actually remove these, if you'd like. Once you're done with all of that, you can set these to the side and you can go ahead and remove your bike.I do recommend replacing these just so they don't get lost. They're very low profile and you could probably misplace them pretty easily.

But as you can see, we do have a nice rubber spacer right here. Which is going to help protect the top of your frame along with this rubber insert down here. Which is going to do the exact same, but underneath your frame. Let me do a couple measurements for you. This adds about 25 inches to the back of our Silverado here.

That's always nice to know if you're going to have to collapse these arms or if you're going to have to remove this for it to fit into your garage. You need a little bit more space, you can pull this lever up top here, it does snap into place. That's going to cut down your length to about a foot onto the back of your bumper, from this point right down here.It does have a anti-rattle system and it's actually a no tool install, which is very convenient. So basically you just slide it in there, put this pin in there. Then you can go ahead and tighten this down.

What that's going to do, it's going to spread out the inside of that shank and it's going to take out all that shake and play that sometimes you get without a anti-rattle system. As you can see, there's no movement inside the hitch and this truck was really moving. This does have a two inch converter sleeve, so it's going to make it compatible with any two inch hitch receiver like here on our Silverado. Let's just say you have multiple cars you plan on putting it on, you could take that sleeve off and it's going to be compatible with any inch and a quarter hitch as well. All in all, it's a very solid rack and honestly it does have a couple cool features. It has a great little bottle opener on the end. Yakima likes to throw that in and on top of that it does tilt away from the bed of your truck. You just pull this lever here and the way they designed this, you don't have any contact with your tailgate. You can use the bed of your truck and even just hang out on the back of your tailgate and you won't have any worries of it hitting. It's always nice to know that the bike racks you purchase, take care of your bikes and your vehicle and this does both. But that's just about going do it for our look at the Yakima Ridgeback Bike Rack on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action, which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Next we're at the alternating speed bumps, which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Finally, we have the full speed bumps, where we'll see the up and down action, which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage or driveway.
