Review of the Thule Trunk Bike Racks on a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica

Today on our 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, we're doing a test fit of the Thule Gateway XT Trunk Mount 2 Bike Rack. That part number is TH9006XT. Now we already have our bike secured down, we're first going to show you how we do that. We have two cradles in place with three straps, two on the frame and one is our anti-sway strap in the back. We're going to pull down, and lift up to release those. Then we'll be able to take our bike off and set it off to the side. With our bike out of the way, we'll take a few measurements.

First is going to be overall what we're adding to our vehicle. We're going to add about 16 inches. We do have the option to rotate our arms down. We're going to come here to the side and we're going to open up the lever, and just loosen that up a little bit. Then we'll wiggle that arm back and forth until it comes loose from the grooves on the inside there, and we'll be able to lock that arm into place.

Again on the other side we'll just loosen that up, come loose from those grooves and secure it down. Now in this position, we're only adding about 8 inches to our vehicle. In total we have about six straps holding our bike rack in place. We have two over the top portion of our hatch, two to the sides just above our taillights, and two underneath the bottom portion. We also have these pads along the bottom and along the top that are going to help to prevent scratches or abrasions. You do just want to make sure you clean underneath where you're going to mount those before mounting up your bike rack.

Another thing to note is that we won't be able to use that rear wiper blade with this installed. Now as for how we fit this onto our vehicle, we have our fit dial on the sides here. We've got it set to 10 as per the Thule guide. To adjust that we would just push on the two levers on either side and adjust it how we need to. You will have that Thule guide with you that will have all the information on how to mount this for not only this vehicle, but all the other fits. You can use this one bike rack for multiple different vehicles.

That's going to be our completed look at the Thule Gateway XT Trunk Mount 2 Bike Rack, part number TH9006XT on our 2017 Chrysler Pacifica.Speaker 2: Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side to side action, which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Next we're at the alternating speed bumps, which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Finally we have the full speed bumps where we'll see the up and down action, which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage, or driveway. .
