Review of the Thule Trunk Bike Racks on a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe
Today on our 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe we're going to look at the Thule Passage 3 Bike Carrier Trunk Mount, part number TH911XT. Now we have a bike on our rack, so I'm going to show you a few things about the bike rack itself. Now we have our bike tied there on our rack, we have a total of 3 straps. We have 2 up top, we have 1 to the side, which we call our anti-sway strap. We're going to go ahead and remove the 2 up top first, then we're going to remove the anti-sway strap, and if you're loading your bike you just do the opposite way. The anti-sway strap first, then your 2 on top.
We're going to take the bike off, set it off to the side. It's always being a good habit to replace your straps, so you don't damage them, or lose them, so I'm going to do that first. I got those done, now we're going to take 1 measurement to see the overall distance we've added to our vehicle. I'm looking at 25 inches. Now these arms do adjust, so by pressing the 2 buttons right here, we can bring this down like so, lock in position, same thing over here. There we go.
Now we're going to take 1 more measurement, overall distance again. That overall distance now, I'm looking at 12 inches. Now how we have our bike rack hooked up to our vehicle, we have a total of 6 hooks, each hook has a rubber coating on so it doesn't damage your vehicle at all. We have 2 up top, we have 2 to the side, and we have 2 underneath our hatch. Now the ones on the top they are tightened by a cam buckle here, one on the driver's side, one on the passenger's side.
The 2 on the side and the 1 underneath our hatch, the cam buckle actually tightens this one and that one, and the cam buckle over here does the same thing for the one down here and on that side. Now I see we have 2 nice cushions on our windows, we have 2 nice cushions underneath our license plate, so it doesn't doesn't damage our, or scratch it, or anything else. The only thing I can say about this, when you have a trunk mounted bike rack on, you cannot use your rear wiper, so just make sure you keep that in mind. Now the one thing about Thule it has a fit kit, it should be in your instructions for the 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe it's at 10.
