Review of the Thule Trunk Bike Racks on a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe we're going to take a look at the Thule Gateway XT two bike rack, trunk mount. That part number is TH9006XT. We have the bike on our rack already, just a few items I want to show you. How our bike is on our rack itself, we have a total of three straps. We have two up top then we have the one to the side called an anti-sway strap. We're going to remove the two up top first. Then we're going to remove our anti-sway strap.

If you we're loading your bike you just go the opposite way, anti-sway strap first then the other two. We're going to set our bike off to the side. I always say get in a good habit to replace your straps so you don't get them, they don't get lost or damaged, we're going to do that first. Now let's go ahead and take one measurement to show you overall distance added to our vehicle. I'm looking at approximately 18 inches. The cradle arms do adjust so I'm going to show you how we do that.

We have a gray lever here, we're going to pull out. Kind of loosen a little and move this a bit. There we go, now we can bring them in. Bring them down to where we need to and then clamp them back up, that's too tight so we're going to loosen that up. Do the same thing for this side.

You can move this one in just a little bit. All right we're going to take one more measurement. Our overall distance now is approximately 10 inches. How we have our bike rack hooked to our vehicle, we have a total of six straps, each strap has a rubber coating on it with a hook so that it won't damage your vehicle at all. We have two up top, then we have two to the side, then we have two underneath our hatch. Each one has a cam buckle on the passenger side and the driver's side.

You press that button or pull the excess here and that will tighten that up. You want to unloosen it you hit the buckle and pull it out. The ones on the side this one here tightens up and the one to the bottom, you tighten it up and put the excess to the side. It also comes with four pads to protect our vehicle. We have two up top and two below. That's going to protect our vehicle from scratches or damage. The one thing I always express, you can not use your rear wiper when you have a truck mount bike on your vehicle. Keep that in mind, don't want you to damage your wiper, vehicle or the bike rack itself. Thule has a fit kit, this is in their instructions.
