Review of the Thule Truck Bed Bike Racks on a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Today, on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 we're gonna be doing a test fit on the Thule GateMate PRO, part number TH824PRO. Now, this GateMate bike rack attaches to the tailgate of your vehicle. It's a quick and easy way to haul your bikes without having to attach a hitch-mounted bike rack, or inside the bed bike rack. You just throw your bike in, strap it down, and then you're good to go. It's also gonna protect your tailgate from any type of scratches or abrasions occurring from those bikes. Aside from bikes, you can use it for other things as well, whether you got canoes, or lumber, anything to that nature.A couple of ...

This is just an updated version of the Thule GateMate. A couple of the updates I wanna point out, is that we have these raised pads right here that's gonna help keep the spacing between your bikes so they don't shift around too much. We also have these hook and loop straps right here, which will wrap around the frame of your bike, and again, make sure they stay in place, they don't move around too much and make contact with each other. Another update I wanna point out is that on the inside, we're gonna have these pockets right here that we can use, whether we got tools, bike equipment, anything to that nature. We do have a pad right here that's kind of a pocket, so that we can have access to our tailgate lock, and it'll also give us visibility in our rear view camera. So you do wanna keep in mind, if you are riding with this pad up, you won't have visibility through your rear view camera.

If you wanna keep it down, you can use the hook and loop straps that are integrated onto it, you can push it down, and that'll keep it in place. We have three different spots where our strap comes under our tailgate. You can see the two right here. It tightens down on the other side. I'll show you real quick how to do this one. Something I like to do before I feed it up through is, I like to kind of bend it like that so that it'll slide up and in.

We're gonna open up the tailgate a little bit for some assistance. We'll just feed this strap up and under, grab it with our finger like that. Once we've got that we'll go ahead and pull it, make sure it's straight before you tighten it down. Once you've got it this far, you can go ahead and close the tailgate. I'm gonna go ahead and hop up here so I can see the lock.

But, all we're gonna do is feed it up through here, then pull down to tighten it down. First, you wanna insert it in the first hole and then bring it back through. Then, once you've got that down just pull it to tighten it down like so. Sometimes it helps to pull down on the other side right there, so you can get all the slack out. Now, you need to do a couple checks. Do it a couple times to make sure it's tight, and then it's ready for use. It's a very quick and easy application. It's easy to put on and take off should you not wanna take it out when you're not hauling any bikes. I'm gonna go ahead and grab a bike and show you how easy it is to throw one on. What you wanna do is take the rear of your bike and go ahead and set it inside your truck bed like that. Now, we're gonna undo our hook and loop strap, and also turn our wheel to the side. We'll take the strap and wrap it around like so, and then attach it. For bikes that have a smaller frame like this, what you can do is pull it down like that, there you go. That just kind of straps it down, now you're ready to go about to your favorite trail or your favorite riding spot and have a good day. That's gonna do it for our look at the Thule GateMate PRO, part number TH824PRO on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
