Review of the Thule Truck Bed Bike Racks on a 2008 Dodge Ram Pickup

Today on our 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, we're doing a test fit of the Thule Gate Mate Tailgate Pad and Bike Rack. That part number is TH824. Now we already have this laid across our tailgate. We're going to show you how to get it installed and then show you an example of to mount your items on there. To start off, we just drape this over tailgate just like so. We're going to open up our pocket here or our flap. It's going to allow us to gain access to our door here and be able to open that up.

Then I will come down to end. Since we have a spray-in bed liner, it is difficult to feed our strap through while the door is closed. We're just going to come to the end and straighten our my strap. Then I'm going to feed it through in between my tailgate and my truck bed. This can be a little difficult, just be patient.

You'll have to work it through with your hands until that comes through. Then we'll come down to the buckle here at the end, just going to feed it through the top, and then down through the bottom just like so. I'll lift up my tailgate a little bit, slide that pad in place so that it's held up on one end, and I'll tighten up my strap just a bit so that holds that in place. I'll do the same thing here on the other side, feeding my strap through and between my tailgate and my truck bed just like so, up through the top, and down through the bottom. Now for the next portion for that center strap, I'm going to close it halfway. Holding that in place, I'm going to pull out my strap once again, and feed it through in between my tailgate and my truck bed. This is going to be a little more difficult because we do have that spray-in liner.

I'm just going to try and feed it through as best I can. We're just trying to get as much through on the other side as possible. We're going to close that up most of the way, step up here, and pull that through. We'll need to open this up again. They can get caught, again, since we have that spray-in liner. We'll pull that whole strap through and secure down the center.

Now keep in mind, when securing down each strap, you don't want to tighten it too much. Make sure you tighten down evenly. I'm just going to make sure that stays in place as we tighten it down. We've still got some excess on the other side, so we'll just pull on that. Now we can load up our gear. I have a surfboard today. To load this up, I'll take it and set it on the end of my tailgate and push it along my bed. Then I'd be able to use the straps here to secure it down in place. What's most helpful about this tailgate pad is that it will prevent any scratchs or abrasions to your truck bed or tailgate, especially if you don't have a spray-in liner or any kind of lining there and you want to keep the paint a little more fresh, it will help to protect that, or you don't want to chip the plastic on the end. Then I have my bike. I'm going to load this up. When I load it up, I want to make sure that my front wheel is facing one direction or the . Then again I can secure that down using my two straps. If you don't have any straps, you can find those here at We also have our pads on the end, which are going to help prevent our bikes from sliding off the edge of our pad and possibly causing damage. That's going to be our completed look at the Thule Gate Mate Tailgate Pad and Bike Rack, part number is TH824, on our 2008 Dodge Ram 2500.
