Review of the Thule Roof Rack on a 2009 Lincoln MKX

Today on our 2009 Lincoln MKX, we'll be doing a test fit of the Thule Rapid Crossroad Roof Rack System for the vehicle's factory raised rails. Using part numbers, THARB53 for the aluminum crossbars, and part number TH450R for the foot packs. We've already got the rear one installed, as you can see there. Let's go ahead and show you how to do the front bar. This is a very easy installation. You don't need a work table to put this stuff together. All we're going to do is remove the end cap off of our crossbar, and then we're going to slide on ...

our foot pack in the channel there. Go ahead and replace that end cap. Then we'll move on up to our roof. We'll need to make sure that the straps are undone there, and then we can go ahead and put that on the other side. We'll just kind of set it in a general area of where we want it to be.

We're actually going to make ours about 27 inches apart, center to center. Let's go ahead and measure from the back one. . Why don't we go ahead and make it about 25 and a half inches. ...

That looks pretty good there. Check this one side one last time. . I'd say we're good. The next thing we want to do, is we want to make sure that this little arrow right here on our foot pack is in the center of the raised rail. Which it looks like it's pretty good over here.

We're going to take that strap underneath, and go ahead and hook it onto the inside of the foot pack there. You want to be sure and remove that key. It's going to look like this. You'll take that off, and then you can put your strap in. While we're at it we're going to go ahead and give that a few spins. Then we'll get the other side set. . We'll make sure that's center. Remove our little tool. Place in the strap. Then we'll tighten that down just a little bit. Then the next thing we want to do, is we'll want to check to make sure we have even bar overhang on both sides. What that's going to be, is it's going to be the distance from the end hear, to the inside of the foot pack. You can see we're a bit off. Give that a couple turns and then we can actually . pull the bar towards us just like that. Grab our tape measure. Got about 3 inches on this side. Let's check the other side. . About 3 inches there, perfect. We'll take our tool, and tighten them all the way down. . Once we've got it nice and secure, it shouldn't go anywhere, we can just take our tool, feed it right back through, and clip it in place. . I like to mention that the roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 pounds. Though, you want to be sure and check with your vehicle's owner's manual to see if your roof can carry that much. . That's about it. You're ready to load up your favorite Thule accessory and hit the road. That's going to complete our test fit of the Thule Rapid Crossroad Roof Rack System, on our 2009 Lincoln MKX.
