Today on our 2012 Volkswagen Touareg we're going to be doing a test fit on the Thule rooftop mounted cargo basket. This cargo basket is going to measure 49 inches long by 40 inches wide, and at it's highest point at the top of this curve here, it's going to have a depth of about 6 inches. Now, it's going to have a sturdy steel construction as well, it's going to have 150 pound weight capacity. You can see that we already have it up here with 3 of the feet installed, but we're going to show you how to install the final one. The first thing you're going to need to do, is before you get started make sure that you have your adjustments for your crossbar spread. Measure from one point on one, to the one point on the other one, and get your crossbar spread whatever measurement that may be, in this case we are at 30 inches. This can be adjusted and permanently set, so that way when you're pulling it on and off your vehicle you can set it up quickly and easily and easily take it off in a matter of minutes. We'll go and place this other foot on.
First thing we're going to do is make sure that we have the proper U bolt, now there's going to be 3 different sizes in the kit, whether it's going to be your short U bolt, this will be the medium one here to go around our 2 arrow bars, and there's a longer one as well, so this will fit a variety of roof rack systems whether that be your stock crossbars, that be your round bar, square bar, elliptical bar, or any other after market ones that you may have, like the arrow type ones here. Let's go ahead and put it into place. Just un-thread those until the top is just visible at the end of the threads. Put one washer up underneath of each one, and then we'll slide it over underneath of our crossbar, and up into the grooves. Thread them down evenly, tighten and secure them. Remember rotate to the right to tighten.
Now, this crossbar is going to be great for anybody's that looking to pull their items out of the inside of the vehicle and store them up on top, or maybe just clear up some leg room and passenger space on the inside. You can put your coolers up here, your luggage, or even your outdoor gear and accessories. Next thing we're going to do is place the cover over. Go ahead and slide the cover underneath, hooking the fins here with the notch that's there over the end that sticks out on this end. Press in, and secure it by rotating the lock to the right to tighten and lock it, or left to loosen it. Now, you can also get an optional lock set for these as well, and those will be available on our website.
Now that you've seen the Canyon rooftop mounted cargo basket, part number TH859 on our 2012 Volkswagen Touareg that'll complete our test fit for today.
