Review of the Thule Passage Trunk Bike Racks on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, we're going to be test fitting the Thule Passage 2 Bike Rack. Part number TH910XT. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go and take a closer look and show off some of the features. Now, how the bike is actually attached to the rack, we're going to have three points of contact. We're going to have two straps up at the top and then one off to the side, and that's going to serve as an anti-sway cradle to keep your bike from moving too far back and forth and possibly making bike to bike contact.

The cradles are also adjustable to accommodate loading and then they have these points here, which this is where your actual brake cables can rest so they're not going to be smashed up against the frame once they're installed. All right, let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. We'll go ahead and loosen up all the straps. We'll lift it up and off. Now, with the bike rack in this position, I'm going to go ahead and give you a quick measurement. Measuring from the edge of our bumper to our outer edge here, which is the end of our arm here, we've added about 20-1/2 inches to the rear of the vehicle.

Now, for those close quarter situations, such as parking or putting it in your garage, these arms do fold down to give you a little bit more clearance. To do that, you'll see these metal pins. There's one on each side. You push them in at the same time and the arms themselves will fold down. Now, with the arms folded down, that same measurement, now we've only added about 10 inches to the rear of the vehicle, so that did make a little bit of a difference. How this actually attaches to your hatch, we're going to have six points of contact.

We're going to have two hooks up at the top and these are rubber coated hooks so it won't scratch up your vehicle. We'll have two to each side just underneath the tail lights. Then two hooks at the bottom. We'll also have these foam pads here at the base as well as where it makes contact with your rear windshield. This is to ensure that your vehicle itself doesn't get scratched up once this is being installed.

Now, when this is installed for the Hyundai Santa Fe, you will not be able to use your rear windshield wiper blade. On the inside here, you're going to see our fit dials. This is how you adjust it for each vehicle that you use it on. For this particular vehicle, we have it set at 10, but always double check your instructions to make sure. There you have it for the Thule Passage 2 Bike Rack. Part number TH910XT on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us the side-to-side action, which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Next, we're at the alternating speed bumps, which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb, or a pot hole, or driving over uneven pavement. Finally, we have the full speed bumps where we'll see the up and down action, which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage, or driveway.
