Review of the Thule Ladder Racks on a 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Hey guys, John here from each trailer.com. Today on our 2019 Toyota Tacoma, we're test fitting the two lead track rack track one ladder rack. This has an 800 pound weight capacity, and it comes in both a silver finish or a matte black finish as you can see, we have here today. The ladder rack is a great way to give you more cargo-carrying capacity. As you can see, we have our ladder here. It's a little bit longer than our short bed here, and we could probably fit it if we put it at a diagonal or maybe loaded on top of the tailgate, we're putting the ladder rack here.

We can almost put it a little bit over our cab. So nothing is really sticking out excessively behind our pickup and it means that we can haul longer cargo. Maybe you have a kayak or canoe, or a longer ladder than this. You don't have to worry about it. Just really hanging over our bed, rightThis system installs with clamps.

Normally you're going to have a C-clamp like this but for our Tacoma, we have the deck rail system which means we need a different clamp. This one has this T-slot here, which actually slides into the deck rail system. But before we get into that, I did want to highlight that you will have at least one clamp that has this bracket on it. This is used to put a locking cover on top of the clamp. So once you lock it, you can't remove that cover, which ultimately locks your ladder rack to your truck.With our cover removed from our deck rail system, you'll take that T slot and slide it in here.

We left this bracket a little bit loose just to give you a little bit of an idea of how this will work. So we'll place the basis of our ladder rack in position. Make sure you measurement to use a tape measure, to make sure they're in the same location. Then we will fit our bracket over the leg and then tighten up these bolts. There is a bracket here that goes on top of the bolts to make sure you don't damage the underside of your deck rail system.Moving up to the top of our ladder act.

You can see we do have a ladder loaded up here. Comes with these load stops, which are really easy to operate. They can move along your crossbars by simply loosening up this handle here but initially what we need to do, just take our strap off. Since it does use a T-slot, you can use other carriers like I mentioned maybe a kayak carrier, canoe carrier, even some bike racks because the T-slot does use standard dimensions. I would like to point out though that the crossbars themselves are wider than normal roof rack crossbars. So you wouldn't be able to fit any kind of carrier that uses the standard clamp system like a lot of bike racks and kayak carriers use. But there are ladder rack systems out there use different kinds of like maybe wider T-slots or don't have any T-slots at all. So it definitely is a plus and it keeps us from having to install anything like I said, on top of our roof. The strap's off, we'll go ahead and remove our ladder, set it aside.Like I was showing you, loosen up this the sandal here and the load stop moves freely into the track system and truly did a good job at giving you different options to tie down, use your tie-downs. They have a hook here, they have an opening here in the bracket, really opens up the possibilities of different loads you can carry and how you can strap them down. Give you a few measurements here from the bed of our pickup to the top of the crossbar sits about 26 inches tall. It clears our truck cab. So you don't have to worry about any longer loads making contact, but it is a good number to note, just so you get an idea of how this is going to fit with your vehicle. As far as crossbar spread goes, which is the center of your crossbars. These brackets can slide along or deck rail system like we mentioned. So you do have some versatility, although you do have to loosen up the bolts to move the brackets, but that is going to complete our look at the two lead track rack track one system on our 2019 Toyota Tacoma.
