Review of the Thule Ladder Racks on a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic

Today we have a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. We're going to be taking a look at the Thule TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack, which is part number TH27000XTB. This ladder rack is a great accessory to have so that you can haul longer items about your truck bed and a bit over the cab of your truck, freeing up the space inside your bed for other tools and equipment or whatever else you might want to put back there. Now, as far as temporary ladder racks go, meaning that we can remove this pretty easily whenever we want because of the clamp system, it has a 800 pound weight capacity which is very high for temporary ladder racks. Most of the time you're going to have a lower weight capacity to get up there. To get up to that weight capacity you're going to need one of the permanent ones that has more support.I'm going to go ahead and climb up so I can show you a little bit more about this. Now, it has a nice matte black powder coat finish which is going to be resistant to rust and corrosion.

So it's going to hold up well to all the elements. We also have these durable load stops, which is going to be handy for securing your load as well as using straps. How you would do it is if you got a ladder, or lumber, whatever you might have, once you set it on your ladder rack you push it against one load stop and then you loosen up this hand knob on the other load stop and push it over until it connects, or makes contact, with the item. Then from there you would take some straps, run it through the load stops and secure your load.It installs by four different clamps. These little C-clamps we have right here.

They come up and under the bedrail right there and clamp down on top of the base of our ladder rack. I'll go ahead and come over here and show you how to get the last one installed. First we're going to take this little rubber piece right here and we're going to set this under the base of the ladder rack so that it kind of protects the truck bed rails. So we're going to set that up. Just slide it under for now.

Then we'll put that back down on top of it, there we go. Now we're going to grab our clamps and put them in place. So, we have this little plate right here and we're going to set that on top of the screw. You want to be careful that doesn't fall off when you put it in. So we're going to start on the outside just above the truck bed rail cap and we're going to come up like that. Then feed the C part into this little ridge right there.

So we'll slide it through on that channel and then we'll just get it hand tightened for now. You want to do this with both of them.Once you have it hand tightened we're going to grab the other one, there we go. It's always a good idea to kind of stick your finger up there, make sure that little plate is sitting on a solid surface. Once you do that we'll grab the other clamp do the same thing. Each set of clamps is going to install the same way. It's going to be very secure, like I said it's got a 800 pound weight capacity. You can haul almost as much as you would with a permanent rack. The bonus being you can take this off if you want to use it for other events. Maybe you're traveling a long distance and you don't need to carry anything over top of your truck bed.Once we hand tighten it we're going to need a little Allen key set, we just so happen to have a socket on us right here. We have a 7/32 size right there. We're just going to bring it under and then tighten it down. We don't need to get it too tight. We just want to get it just pretty snug. There we go. We'll do the other one now. There we go. Then once you have all of them installed you're ready to go ahead and use your rack for whatever you want.I'm going to go ahead and grab a ladder and throw it up there so you can get an idea what it's going to look like. If you have an extra set of hands it's always handy. But if not in my opinion it's easiest to come from the back right here. We're going to set it on top of the rack and then just slide it up like so. Just kind of climbing down the ladder as we go. We're going to push it all the way up there until we can make contact with the other side. Then we'll push it the rest of the way. Once you have it in the place that you want it, like I said we're going to come up to these load stops, push it up against the ladder so kind of sandwiching it between the two load stops which is going to help with security, like I said. There you go. That's going to help prevent it from shifting at all. Then your straps can just focus on securing it down onto your ladder rack. Like I said, you do want to get a set of straps and secure that load because it could still slide back and forth or bounce up and down.Other than that, that's going to do it for our look at the Thule TracRac TracONE Truck Bed Ladder Rack on our 2019 Ram 1500 Classic.
