Review of the Swagman Hitch Bike Racks on a 2014 Ford Fiesta

Today on our 2014 Ford Fiesta we're doing a test fit of the Swagman Trailhead 4 bike rack. That part number is S63380. We already have a bike on our rack. We'd like to show you a few features. How our bike is held down, we have a total of 4 straps. We have 3 up top, and one to the side as our anti-sway strap. We're going to take the ones of first from the top.

If you we're loading it up, you'll actually do the anti-sway strap first, then you'll load up the rest of them. With the Fiesta we have a class 1 hitch on, so it can only hold up to 2 bikes, just remember that before purchasing your bike rack. We always want to get in the good habit of replacing our straps so that don't get damaged or lost, so we're going to do that first. All right-y. Now I'd like to take a few measurements. First measure we're going to do is overall. Overall, we've added 36 inches to our vehicle, and the closest from our bumper to the closest to the bike rack is 7 inches. Our lowest point for the ground clearance, I'm looking at approximately 8 inches. With these bike rack, the cradle arms can come down, so let me show you how that works.

We have a pin and clip here, you pull this out, bring it down, slide the pin and clip back in. Once again, overall distance has changed, so we're going to take another measurement. I'm looking at here to the cradle arms, I'm looking at 21 inches. This also has a tilting feature. What we do is, we have a pin and clip here, first we're going to go ahead and loosen this. Loosen this bite knob here, it's like a little bracket along the cross of it. We want to turn it sideways, remove our pin and clip.

Then we can bring it down. With the bike rack in this position, you can get back inside your hatch, as you can see, you've got plenty of room on both sides to get anything, put anything in or take anything out. Now, we want to put it back up to the regular position, so insert our pin and clip, then we want to line it up, and go ahead and tighten it. There we go, nice and tight. With this particular bike rack, it is equipped for 1 and 1/4 and 2 inch hitches. Today we're using 1 and 1/4. Like I said this is a class 1. It does come with an anti-rental boat and clip. That'll be it for our test fit on the Swagman Trailhead 4 bike rack, that part number again is S63380, on today's 2014 Ford Fiesta.

Let's see how it does on our test course. Here it is on our test course. First it's a slalom area, which simulates side to side action like turning the corners or invasive maneuvers. Next are the alternative speed bumps, which show you the twisting action like hitting a pothole, road debris, or hitting the curb. Finally we have the solid speed bumps, which show the up and down action to simulate a parking garage or coming out of your driveway.
