Review of the SportRack WaterSport Carriers on a 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Today on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee, we'll be doing a test fit of the Sport Rack Kayak Carrier with a J Hook Style Design. It will be designed for, it's designed for one kayak and as you can see we've already got one mounted up here on market rails. We're going to go ahead and show you how to mount the other one up here and get it evenly and set up especially with your kayak on it. The first thing we're going to do is just get it up here, and make sure that this are unthreaded almost all the way. You know what, let's just leave that off of there, we'll make it really simple here. We're going to thread both of those, we'll drop down the plate, put the base over then this plate is going to go underneath, we'll thread this one on there just a little bit just to give it something to bite on to, place the hook style over.

Now this can be done the other way as well and it is usually is but I'm just going through it this way just to show you kind of how it all comes together. On the other side it just got a hole and that is what the bolt is going to slide through on this side and we'll place the threaded wing nut on the other side and thread it in a little bit. Once we've got that threaded or the thread started we're going to move to the back here and measure this out that way we get the equal amount of distance off of each rail. Don't ever measure it from your feet pads because there are different widths like the front one is a little bit narrower or a little bit wider than the back one because they factory rail does narrow at the back. We'll make sure to measure from the end of your bar because when the bars are put on, you should have an equal overhang. Your bar is going to be the same length and then you'll get the same measurement ever y time. The easiest way to do it.

Measure try to see where you are at, all right and then you'll get this one the exact same here. All right, that's right where we want it. Let's start tightening this down and then once we've get it semi tight, we're going to double check that measurement and make sure that it hasn't move while we we're threading it down. Granted it shouldn't if you are holding it but occasionally and you want to make sure that it's as straight as it can be especially if you are carrying in a kayak. All right let's double check that one more time, make sure we've got the same measurement on the front and the back.

That looks good. All right with all those squared up and looking good, make sure they are tight and then we'll grab our kayak. You want to place the bottom in first and then slide the back over and kind of roll it into the cradle. Make sure it makes as many contact points as possible on the front and the back pad. Next thing you always want to make sure is that you tighten it down as much as you can before you hit the road. Now it will come with tie down straps but the reason we aren't doing it here is because everybody does it differently and there is no set fashion to do so.

Just make sure that you tighten it down and have it all completely strapped. Now on the back side here I'm going to show you something else. Granted everybody's kayak are going to be a different size, different width, different lengths, different shapes all around, but that way you can see what kind of clearance we have with this particular model, you'll get an idea. All right and as you can see, it will make just very light contact with that wiper blade right there. Granted you could push it forward a little more or just be aware of it when it is strapped down it won't make hard contact because of the hydraulic shocks on the factory hatch. Now that's going to do it for our test fit of the Sport Rack Kayak Carrier with tie downs J hook style part number SR5511. Again that's part number SR5511 on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee. .
