Review of the SportRack Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2013 Ford Flex

Today on our 2013 Ford Flex we'll be doing a test fit of the SportRack Vista Folding Cargo Carrier. That's part number SR9851. Its dimensions are twenty by sixty. It has a weight capacity of five hundred pounds, and it's for two inch by two inch receivers only. Let's go ahead and load that shank into our receiver. Then we'll line up our pin holes.

That actually looks pretty good. Then we can take our included anti-rattle bolt and thread that through. The nice thing about this anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce some of the play and the rattle within our receiver and our carrier. As you can see without that being tightened up we've got a lot of play in that. We can tighten that down and then we'll give it another shake. That feels pretty good.

As you can see most of that play and the rattle is gone there. Let's take a few measurements. All right so our nearest point, it looks like it's going to be from here to our bumper, about five and a half inches away. Overall to the Flex we've added about seventeen and a half inches. Our ground clearance about ten and a half inches right there. Let's go ahead and lower this down. What you want to do is you come over here to this clip.

Go ahead and pull that out, remove the pin. As you can see that allows us to lower it down. Then we'll replace that pin right here to hold it in position. Put our clip in place, let's take a few more measurements. Our nearest point has changed. It looks like right around our license plate there to there, about eleven inches.

Then overall to the Flex with it lowered down we've added about thirty-nine and a half inches. Our ground clearance back here about fifteen inches, which makes our loading height roughly twenty-four inches. Let's open up our rear hatch and check our break over point. Get that lowered back down for us here. There we go. It'd be right around that position there, so let's call it about twenty-six and a half inches before our rear hatch breaks over our carrier. You just want to be aware of that when you're stacking your cargo about that height. All right one more thing I'd like to point out is our exhaust exits on our driver and passenger side as you can see there. Let's take that measurement. About twenty-one inches away from the carrier, so just be aware of that when you're carrying any heat sensitive materials. It's probably not going to interfere with it, but just be aware of that when you're carrying any heat sensitive materials on either side of the carrier there. That's going to complete our test fit of the SportRack Vista Folding Cargo Carrier, part number SR9851, on our 2013 Ford Flex. Let's see how that carrier performed on our test course. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action, such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action, such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action, such as driving through a parking lot, or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway.
