Review of the SportRack Hitch Cargo Carrier on a 2013 Ford Flex

Today on our 2013 Ford Flex, we'll be doing a test fit of the Sport Rack Vista cargo carrier. That's part number SR9849. Its dimensions are 20 by 60. It has a weight capacity of 500 pounds, and it's for 2 inch by 2 inch receivers only. Let's go ahead and begin by placing that shank into the receiver. We'll slide that in, and we'll line up our pin holes.

We're going to go with that second pin hole today on our hitch, it's going to be our 5/8ths pin hole. All right, that looks pretty good. Then we'll take our included anti-rattle bolt, and thread that through. Now, the nice thing about this anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce the play and the rattle within our hitch and our carrier. Without that being tightened up, as you can see, we've got a lot of movement in there.

Let's tighten that down, and then we'll give it another shake. That feels pretty good. As you can see, most of that movement is gone, going to have a nice smooth ride. Let's take a few measurements. Our nearest point looks like it's going to be, from the first portion of the shank here to the underside of the bumper, will be about 5 inches away before it makes contact. Overall, to the flex, we've added about 30 inches.

Our ground clearance back here, about 13 inches, which is going to make our loading height roughly 22 inches, right here. Let's open up our rear hatch and check our break over point. All right, there we go. Our break over point will be about 18 and a half inches here, so just be aware of that when you're stacking your cargo about that height, before your rear hatch makes contact with it, that is. One last thing that I'd like to point out is that our exhaust exits on our driver and passenger side, as you can see there. Let's take that measurement.

Looks like it's going to be about 11 and a half inches away from our carrier. Just be aware of that when you're carrying any heat-sensitive materials on the driver and passenger side of your carrier. That's going to complete our test fit of the Sport Rack Vista cargo carrier, part number SR9849, on our 2013 Ford Flex. Let's see how that performed on our test course. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action, such as turning corners, or evasive maneuvering. Then, on to our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action, such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action, such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway.
