Review of the SeaSucker Roof Rack on a 2018 Toyota Corolla

Speaker 1: Today in our 2018 Toyota Corolla, we're gonna be test fitting the SeaSucker Monkey Bar roof rack system, and this is going to be part number 298-SX6000. These bars are 48 inches long. Attach to your roof without any other clamps or anything like that, that would go underneath your doorjamb here. Instead, it uses these suction mounts on both sides. These suction mounts do have 210 pounds of pull, so they are going to stay in place once they're installed. This is a great roof rack system to carry a wide variety of accessories to free up space inside your Corolla, like bike racks, cargo baskets, or cargo boxes. This is adjustable with these eyelets here on both sides back and forth to accommodate different crossbar spread.

To adjust those, it does come with a tool to loosen up the screws in the back here to move them in or out as needed. As you can see, in this case, we need to move it further in a little bit, just because of this curve here, and we can't put it on these creases here. These are round bars, so they will make a little bit of noise while you travel. Now, we do have fairings online that you can purchase, that would help cut down the wind noise and drag, if that's what you wanted. These are very easy to install and very easy to store up in your trunk once you're finished, so let's go ahead and show you how the rear one goes on. We already have it put together on our table here, and this is pretty much what's going to come with the kit once you get it. We have this already assembled, and of course we have a spare suction mount, if you should need one, and the tightening tool. Our first step, we're going to remove these protective covers here.

Then using just a common spray bottle, or you can use a damp rag, we're going to moisten the bottoms of the suction mounts before we put them in place. Now we can move back to the vehicle with our suction mounts in tow. We're just going to set them on the roof, making sure, of course, the roof is clean first before we do this. Next, we're going to measure from center to center of the bars to keep the measurements even on both sides.Generally for these roof rack systems, you don't want to go under 24 inches. But, what is pretty unique about this roof rack system is, unlike the ones that have those clamps that go underneath here, they have set measurements.

With this, you do have a little bit of leeway to go back and forth as needed to accommodate those accessories with those varying crossbar spreads.Alright. Looks like that's even on both sides now. Now the fun part. To put these in place, you just apply a little bit of pressure, like so, and then you come to this plunger on the other side. You just start pushing in, and as we do this, you can see it start to fasten to the roof.

You want to do this until this orange part here can no longer be seen. We'll just simply repeat this on the other side. Now, removing these is just as easy. You'll see that they have these tabs on either side. You simply lift up, and it pops right back up. Again, easy to take off and put back on, and ready to go when you're ready. Now, these do have a carrying capacity of 150 pounds, but you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can take those weights.Right now I'm gonna give you a quick measurement here from the center of the roof to the bottom and top of the bar. This is going to give you an idea of how high this can sit off of your roof here. From the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is going to be about four and a quarter inches, and from the center to the top is about five and five eighths inches. That's more than enough space for those accessories that wrap around your bars where it won't damage your roof. If you did have a sunroof model here, this may not work, because again, you can't put it on those creases, and we had to go in just a little bit to make this work. There you have it for the SeaSucker Monkey Bar roof rack system on our 2018 Toyota Corolla.
