Review of the Saris Sentinel Trunk Mount 2 Bike Rack
Speaker: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Saris Sentinel Trunk Mounted Two Bike Rack Part No. SA1051. The Sentinel has these unique cradles that can move up and down the arms to accommodate different bike widths and also can tilt to accommodate different bike styles. This can also be tilted down and wrap around the seat post to act as an anti-sway strap. The Sentinel has this nice, soft foam pads on the upper and bottom portion of the bike rack. This is going to help protect your car's finish and also help the bike rack from slipping. The clips are coated in a rubber paint which is also going to help prevent your paint from being damaged. The Saris Sentinel is made in the USA, has a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
Now that we've gone over some of the special features we're going to show you how to install it. Before we begin our installation we'll first need to bring the bike rack out into our un-store position. We'll do this by taking the two arms and pulling it apart, with the bike rack like this we're ready to fit it to the vehicle. We'll place the bottom pad here on our license plate but depending on your application the bottom pad position will vary. Now what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead and remove these silver pins on the left and right hand side of the bike rack. This is going to allow us to adjust it to fit the size of our trunk. Then when we think we got it fit we'll go then and replace the pins to secure the arms into position. We're going to go ahead and position our clips on the upper and bottom portion of our trunk.
You can tell the upper clip from the lower clip as the upper clip is a little bit wider and it is also labeled "upper". We'll get the clip in position and then we'll just pull it snug and it's going to help us keep the bike rack in place. Then we'll just go ahead and move to the other side and repeat the same process. You don't want to fully tighten it down at this point we'll just going to snug down the straps, it's just going to help keep us the bike rack in place so that we can position the clips in the bottom part of the trunk. Now the top two straps in place we'll go ahead and position the bottom straps on the bottom part of the trunk. Now that we got all the straps in place now we can further tighten them down to secure the bike rack to the trunk.
With the bike rack secured we'll go ahead and secure the excess straps. Now that we've gone over some of the special features and shown you how to install it we'll go ahead and show you how to load up a bike. We'll first start off by undoing the cradle straps. Next we'll then simply place the bike into the frame cradles. Now with the bike in place we'll simply take the cradle straps around and secure it tightly around the frame and now with our bike all loaded up we'll go ahead and take it out for a test drive and show you how it looks driving down the road. The bike rack is for a 2012 Mustang. Why do you show it being installed on a Chevy? Doesnt make me feel very certain of it fitting my Mustang, now does it?
