Review of the Saris 8' Cable Lock

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Saris Cable Lock, part #SA981. The Saris cable lock is going to allow you to secure your bike to the vehicle. It's 8 feet long, and it's going to allow you to secure multiple bikes. So the cable itself is made of a heavy duty braided steel which is super strong and durable. It has a rubber coating on the cable itself so when the cable is wrapped around the bike it's not going to scratch it up or scuff it. And it comes with two keys and a rubber protective cap that is going to go over the front part of the lock.

It's going to protect it from any moisture or dirt or debris from getting in there. Now we're going to go ahead and take the cable lock and show you how to secure your bike to an attachment point on your vehicle. So how this cable lock works is you'll first need to unlock it and remove the large yellow lock from this gold pin here. And what you'll do is you'll wrap this cable around the bike and through your attachment point on your vehicle. And what you're going to do is you're going to bring this gold pin up through this loop in the cable and then secure the lock back on that gold pin. This loop is not going to be able to come off of that gold pin therefore locking your bikes to the vehicle. So now down here at the rear back of the vehicle we're going to look for a heavy duty secured attachment point.

It has these loops which are welded to the hitch which is going to provide a great attachment point for our cable. So we'll just take one end of the cable and go around one of the loops here in the hitch and pull the cable up. We'll then take the end of the cable and go through the bike frame here. And then back around. Now depending on your bike rack you may be able to loop the cable through to hold like this or another attachment point which is also going to secure the bike rack to the vehicle. For today's application the hole is not big enough for the end of the cable to come through so we're just going to bring the cable back down to the rear of the car.

And now like I showed you before we'll go ahead and insert the gold pin into this loop here at the end of our cable and then secure it with a lock. We'll then remove the keys, and just to make sure that our cover is over there to protect our lock cord. And with it locked it place you can see that our bike is secured to the vehicle. Now with our bike all locked down that will complete today's review of the Saris Cable Lock, part #SA981. .
