Review of the Rola Roof Cargo Carrier on a 2014 Nissan Frontier

Today on our 2014 Nissan Frontier we're going to be test fitting the Rola roof-mounted cargo basket. This is designed to fit on any of your either factory or after-market roof rack applications. Its part number is 59504. Now we've already got our Thule Rapid Traverse roof rack system installed onto our Frontier so we'll begin our test fit by placing the cargo basket directly up onto our load bars. Now if you plan on talking this on and off quite a bit, this is one of the heavier baskets we have, so you might want to consider that before getting it. Now that we've got it up there, we're going to position our aeroblades directly under two of our bars that run parallel all the way across. That's going to help us keep it square, because the front of our aeroblades should be square, so we can see that. Then we'll take a quick look just to be sure we have it centered.

Needs to come over this way just a little bit, so we'll make that adjustment. We're then going to place one of our black plastic spacers underneath the rack but above our roof rack just like that. We're going to place one of these on each of the four corners. Once we have these positioned at each of the four corners we'll then take one of our black metal plates. As you can see, it's got two squares that have been taken out of the metal.

Those are made to fit right over the two squares that we have on top of each of our spacers. Just slide that over to where you hear those squares engage one another. We're then going to take one of our black rubber-coated metal u-bolts. We're going to bring it into the slot on one side of that metal bracket. We'll bring it up through our other slot and then we'll thread it .. Oops, lost our position there.

We'll thread a wing nut on top. Once we have them both about even then we'll tighten both of them down. This is going to give us equal pressure all the way along the bottom side of that load bar, and it will secure our basket onto the vehicle. With that one secure we're going to keep moving around. We'll repeat this process on each of the clamps. We'll place the metal bracket over the top, bring our u-bolt around the other side, and then thread our wing nut on.

Now that we have our driver side secure here, let's move on around to our passenger side. If you haven't already guessed, we're going to place our metal bracket over the top. We'll bring our u-bolt around the underside and then thread on our wing nut. All right, we've got just one more to go here. We're going to go bracket over and u-bolt under. Now you do have to take one of the wing nuts as we do this to get it to come up through the slot here at the other side. Then we'll snug it on down. Just like that we've got our cargo basket mounted onto our 2014 Nissan Frontier. We're going to load it down with gear and let you see what the Rola cargo basket, part number 59504, looks like going through our test course. .
