Review of the Rola Roof Basket on a 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited

Speaker 1: Today we're in our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited, we're taking a look and test fitting for you the Rola Vortex Rooftop Cargo Basket. Now this basket's designed to free up a lot of space for your passengers and pets inside of your vehicle. The one we have mounted here is part number 59504-EXT. That's a total basket length of 70 and 3/4 of an inch and it offers a 40.5 inch width. We also have this available without the extension which is added in right here. That reduces the overall length to 52 inches.

We're going to maintain the 40.5 inch width. That part number is 59504.Now we're already installed three of our clamps that hold the rooftop basket down to our crossbars. We're going to show you how to do the last one here. You're going to start with the spacer. This is designed to fit in between two of the rungs on the bottom.

You're going to choose the one that's closest to your bar. We're going to get that slid up and in and it's just going to kind of clamp into place, or clip into place rather.Next, we've our metal bracket. You can see the square holes are meant to line up with the square tabs that stick up on our spacer so we'll bring that down and over, just like that. We're going to have a U bolt that comes up around the bottom. This is going to be rubber coated, it's going to help to prevent any scratching or anything like that of your roof rack system.

This is designed to work on a lot of different roof rack systems. Your factory bars, round bars, square bars and aero bars like we have here today, and even most of the elliptical systems. You can see on each side of the U bolt, we just want to thread on our nuts there. Now there's no tools required for the installation which makes it pretty easy. You can get it on and off your vehicle quite simply. Just going to tighten these down.

Now this basket while we tighten this down, we kind of talk about some of the features, it offers a lot of bang for the buck. We get a lot of good reviews on it. Customers are very pleased with the product and in feeling it, it's really nice, it's heavy duty, it's welded very well and we've had this one around the shop for quite a while. You can see it's got a couple little mars on it but the finish is really holding up really well, especially as much abuse as we put 'em through. We just want to tighten these down so they're snug, and at that point, you can see really nice, secure rooftop basket there. Now some people might ask kind of how much height are you adding. We're going to go from the top of your crossbar to the top of the tube here. We got about five and a half inches, so you just want to keep that in mind. Another nice addition, you'll see the faring on the front. That's to help kind of diffuse some of wind and keep it from creating any kind of noise, anything like that as you head down the road. But overall again, it's a really nice, sturdy, heavy duty product. You can see there's tons of room in this the extended version. We're also going to have a lot of room in the shorter version and each of these little points over here are going to offer a really tie down location. So once you have your gear up and in place, we will have several tie down locations to get that nice and secure. You can see the bottom of it's open all the way through. So if you are putting any dirty or muddy items in there, you really shouldn't have to worry about that resting on top, it's going fall down through and hopefully wash off the top of your Jeep. That'll be a good overview on it, you can see how it fits there. Now to complete our look at the Rola Vortex Roof Rack Cargo Basket, part number 59504, or part number 59504-EXT.

Questions and Comments about this Video

Ken S.

Is the 130 and 180 weights shown cargo carrying capacity or the weight of the rack? Thank you 48655

Reply from Mike L.

If the extension piece is NOT used, the capacity of the rack is 180 lbs. With the extension in place, the capacity is 130 lbs. Keep in mind, these capacities could be limited if the capacity of the roof rack being used or the vehicle's roof itself has a lower weight capacity. 44602
