Review of the Rhino Rack Roof Basket on a 2021 Toyota 4Runner

Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com and today we're gonna be taking a look at the Rhino-Rack rooftop cargo basket, here on our 2021 Toyota 4Runner. Now a cargo basket is really nice. It's gonna allow you to carry a variety of different items on your roof. Unlike a cargo box, which is enclosed, you can fit some of your more oversized items in here that might otherwise be too tall or too wide for a box. You don't have that same sort of height restriction.

As long as everything is strapped down properly and within that weight limit of 165 pounds, you should be good to go. Now I like baskets a lot, especially on a 4Runner like this cause I think they add a lot to the styling of the vehicle. And this Rhino-Rack is no exception. I think it looks really sleek and really nice up there and fits the vibe really well. On the front here, we have a wind deflector.

Now this doesn't cover the whole front, but it will help with some of that drag and wind noise. And you've got plenty of points around to run straps through, tie things down, get those hooks in and make sure all of your cargo is secure. As far as usable space goes, it's going to be 41 inches long from that front inside edge to the back and 30 and a half inches wide from side to side. That should give you a better idea of what kind of cargo you can fit in there and how you want to arrange all of your gear. Now, as far as height added goes, from the top of our crossbar to the top of the rack, we're gonna be adding about six inches of overall height to our vehicle.

Now keep in mind, once you start loading it up, depending on the gear you have in there, that's gonna probably stick up a bit higher. So when you're pulling in your garage, if you've got it loaded up, just make sure you're cautious of that. Any sort of low clearance situations, you wanna be mindful of what's up there. The other nice thing is that you do still have full hatch access. This isn't a huge basket by any means.

We had a cargo box up here earlier today and while it was much bigger, it did not clear with the hatch. So, that's another thing to consider, is how it's going to affect the functionality of your vehicle. And overall, I think this one's gonna do really well. I like the opening and having things where I can tie it down how I want. I can fit my oversized gear in there. If things are wet, muddy, dirty it's not gonna sit inside an enclosed space. It's gonna be all safe up on the roof. Thanks for watching..
