Review of the Rhino Rack MountainTrail Roof Bike Racks on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Rooftop Bike Rack, part number RBC035. We already have the bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. How this bike actually attaches to the rack, there's not going to be any frame contact at all. Instead it's going to have two points of contact. We're going to have this wheel strap at the back, and then up at the front we're going to have this skewer mount here which will grip your bike by its fork mounts. It is lockable so once you attach this your bike will be secured to the bike rack, and also with everything attached right now, we're not going to have any clearance issues with the rear hatch as you can see here. Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside.

To do that we'll push this tab at the rear wheel strap. I would like to point that this is adjustable along the bike rack to accommodate different size bikes as well. Come up front here. To release the skewer you just lift up on this handle like so, and you can loosen it by turning it to the left or tighten it by turning it to the right. Now let's lift our bike up and off. How this actually attaches to your roof rack, it's going to have two points of contact there as well.

We're going to have this bracket here with the two turn knobs and that's going to tighten it up so the crossbar itself is going to sit between the bike rack and the bracket. Then up at the front, we're going to have these rubber coated steel straps that wrap around and tighten down with this bolt in the front. This top portion here is also lockable, so once you attach this it actually is secured to your roof rack as well. There you have it for the Rhino-Rack MountainTrail Rooftop Bike Rack, part number RBC035 on our 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Here it is on our test course. We'll start by going through the slalom, and this is going to show us the side to side action which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers.

Next we're at the alternating speed bumps which we'll see the twisting action. This will simulate hitting a curb or pothole, or driving over uneven pavement. Finally we have the full speed bumps where we'll see the up and down action, which is just like driving out of a parking lot, garage, or driveway.
