Review of the Rhino Rack Hitch Bike Racks on a 2021 Toyota 4Runner

Hi, everyone. Aiden here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna be taking a look at the Rhino Rack 2-bike hanging style rack here on our 2021 Toyota 4Runner. Now this is a really nice entry level hanging style rack. One thing I wish is that it had a four bike option but this one's capable of holding two bikes with 33 pounds of weight capacity for each cradle. If you are looking for something that can hold three bikes or four bikes, sorry, you can check out the CURT premium, it's a really comparable option.

Now, one thing with this though, you have three points of contact. You've got the two on top of these rubber straps and then you've got one on the seat post here holding that from going side to side, kinda limiting that movement so you don't have as much bike to bike contact. Now we can get that removed really easily by pulling those straps and actually getting the bike off. One thing about the two bike capacity is that it's really easy to unload. You don't have to get your face right up into the bike rack to get to the bike.

And then we can go ahead and replace those straps just so they aren't freely moving around. One thing to note with a hanging style rack is that you can often tilt them away. And this one you can by pushing that lever on the bottom and tilting it away, but you can't do this with the bikes loaded. So we can get hatch access. If we need to get something bigger out of here, sit down change our shoes.

But if we need to, because our 4Runner has this big back window, we can just roll that down, get what we need. There's plenty of room to get in here even with the bikes loaded. So it's not too big of an issue for me. I do like though that it has these handles instead of pins and clips, it makes 'em really easy to operate, less prone to pinching and things like that. Now let's go ahead and get some measurements.

We can see how far it sticks out from the back of the bumper. We're gonna be working with 29 inches of added length, but with the folding arms, we can reduce that. Coming to the top lever this time, blocks back into place automatically. We cut that length down to about 16, more like 15 inches. So that's a lot more manageable, easy to fit this thing in a garage if you wanna leave it on between rides, it's ready to go when you need it. Now down at the bottom we can see how much ground clearance you've got. At the back end here, about 21 1/2 inches and 18 inches of clearance right here. Plenty of room. It's pretty close to the vehicle. So I don't think you're gonna have any sort of issues bottoming out. You'll notice right here, we've got some loops. We can add a cable lock which is nice. And we've got our two inch by two inch shank for our two inch receivers and an anti rattle bolt, keeping things nice and sturdy. I do wish that there was a locking anti rattle bolt here, but regardless, it is very nice. Now, overall, I think the levers and everything are really nice on this. It's easy to operate, but I do wish there was a four bike option and I think the CURT premium does handle that requirement pretty well for your 4Runner. Thanks for watching..
