Today on our 2013 Ford Explorer, we're doing a test fit of the Maxxtow 48 by 21 cargo carrier. That part number is MT70422. It's designed to work with two-inch hitches and has a weight capacity of 500 pounds. Now, the first thing we're going to do is take a few measurements. Our ground clearance is about 14 1/2 inches. Our overall is about 29 inches.
Our closest point is about 6 3/4 inches away. Now, we do have a dual exhaust on our Explorer. It does come about straight out and even with the carrier. We have about 11 inches between the two so if you're planning on carrying any heat sensitive materials, I would do so either in your hatch area or in the middle of your carrier. Now, with our hatch area, because this is an automatic hatch, you may run into some conflict with anything that's stacked on your carrier. We measure our break over point here.
We've got about 18 1/2 inches. If you have anything that is higher than that stacked on your carrier, you may run into that conflict. Now, if we take a look at our hitch, again, that's designed to work with two-inch hitches. We also have a hitch pin and clip in there. That is included with your carrier. Although we do have some anti-rattle options on our website if you feel that is necessary for your carrier.
That's going to be our completed look at the Maxxtow 48 by 21 cargo carrier. That part number again is MT70422 on our 2013 Ford Explorer. Let's see how it does on the test course. Here on our test course, we'll start by going through the slalom. This is going to show us side to side action which simulates turning corners or evasive maneuvers. Once we get to the alternating speed bumps, we'll see the twisting action.
This will simulate hitting a curb or a pothole or driving over uneven pavement. Once we get to the full speed bumps, we'll see the up and down action. This will be just like driving in and out of a parking lot, garage, or driveway.
