Review of the Malone Roof Box on a 2017 Ford Taurus

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Taurus, we're gonna be test-fitting the Malone cargo 12 rooftop cargo box, part number MPG901. This has 12 cubic feet of space to work with and is ideal for storing a wide variety of accessories on your roof that you want to keep out of your vehicle but also dry, such as camping equipment, luggage, maybe even some sporting goods. It can only be opened from the passenger side, so when you store this, you want to make it more towards the passenger side to make it easy for loading and unloading. It's very easy to install. It simply clamps around your existing roof rack system. Right now we have it around square bars, but this will also work with narrow, elliptical, and most factory roof racks as well and round bars.

It does have a lock feature to it. Turn it to the unlock position to open it up, and once it's in the unlock position, the key cannot be removed. It comes with two straps to tie down your cargo once it's inside so it's not shifting around while you're driving, and the clamps come up here. It does come with a tightening tool to tighten these clamps down as well. The box itself does have a nice aerodynamic shape to it, so it's not gonna make as much noise while you're driving, and the dimensions are gonna be 55 1/8th inches long by 31 1/2 inches wide, by 17 3/8th inches tall at its highest point. An advantage to this over your average cargo basket is that it is covered and it's gonna ensure that your gear or your luggage is gonna stay dry while you travel. While it's installed, there's not gonna be an issue of clearance between your trunk and the box.

As you can see, there's plenty of space in between. The only disadvantage to this cargo box is how it clamps on. You see that the clamps come from opposing sides here, while most other cargo boxes, they actually have U-bolts or clamps that all go into the same side and slide into place. It's not that big of a deal to adjust it, but it can be kind of a pain to install initially. And there you have it for the Malone cargo 12 rooftop cargo box on our 2017 Ford Taurus.
